23835, On: Martial Arts Action
Posted by SupermanFrom281, Wed Mar-02-05 02:15 AM
Remember when there used to be nothing but martial arts movies released in the 80's? Some were good and memorable....some were not so good not so good. Or remember watching 70's or 80's kung fu movies on Saturday mornings with bad dubbing and wires? Or are you into more modern martial arts films? Let's discuss some movies....

1. Post a movie involving martial arts in some shape or form (live action or animated) or actors/actresses/directors known for their movies involving martial arts.

2. Reply with your thoughts, commentary, or opinions on the movie or actors. Think the movie was great or sucked? Think the actor is overrated or one of the G.O.A.T's? You can also post memorable scenes from certain movies if you want.

Great film, love it when bruce fights Ohara, he is quick
as shit in that scene, watch it in slow motion when they start
with the backs of their wrists touching, Lee's speed is unbeleivable! "Boards don't hit back"...hahaha love it
23838, That scene was crazy
Posted by SupermanFrom281, Wed Mar-02-05 03:13 AM
O'Hara got his ass whipped in the worst way.

That movie has a lot of memorable fight scenes (sad part is that I know that movie word for word). The infamous mirror fight with Han and the scene when Lee sneaks into Han's palace and fights his entire security was memorable too.

I felt sorry for Jim Kelly though...it should have been John Saxon getting his ass whipped by Han.

The goat martial arts song IMO.

PS: The goat unintentional comedy sequence in a martial arts flick comes from bloodsport also: watch after Frank gets the powder in his eyes from chung li/strawberry, that whole scene has me rolling when he's initially screaming then finds that inner calm. The facial expression are priceless.
23841, I agree with you on the song....

>The goat martial arts song IMO.
FIGHT TO SURVIIIIIIVE! damn, i want this song on vinyl

and the whole movie is full of comedy, intentional and unintentional. Everything about this movie is awesome.

"Aren't you a little too old for video games?"
"HA! You lose, American Asshole!"
"YOU-BREAK-MY-RECORD...I-BREAK-YOU...LIKE I BREAK-YOUR-FRIEND"
the kicks to the side battle between Frank and Paco
"CHONG-LI! CHONG-LI! CHONG-LI!" and his dance and face when he eggs the crowd on.

and the crowd favorite...

"OK USA!"

LOL Hell yes....the slow motion and the yelling

One of the biggest arguements me and the boys used to have is who would win if Chong Li and Tong Po from "Kickboxer" fought each other.

This movie also began the trend of Van Damme always coming back from fights after getting his ass whipped by somebody.

That theme song ruled though....

More a stunt show than bonafide movie, but dude is pretty amazing.

I mean damn, he pulled off some crazy crazy stunts. And to be forever kneeing suckas right up in the grill...it was something else...

23901, In terms of sheer excitement, this ranks up there.....
Posted by LA2Philly, Sat Mar-05-05 12:04 PM
you shoulda seen the audience I was watching it with mayne....everyone was going crazy when Tony was throwing down. It was all 'ooooohs' and 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahs', and 'you gotta be fucking kidding me', or 'DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMNNNNNN'. Although the story took a major backseat, in terms of enjoyment, Ong-Bak was ridiculous.

GREAT martial arts film which also had a good plot/story line. There was great chemistry between the leading actors and it went along at a good pace. I put it up there w/ Enter the Dragon because of that great combination which is where most martial arts movies fall short.

Directed by Ronnie Yu, starring Brigette Lin and Leslie Cheung.

27374, a most enjoyable movie-
Posted by shockzilla, Tue Mar-15-05 07:44 AM
but the fighting scenes were overly stylised- not spoiling it as a movie, but taking away from it being considered a great movie for its fighting sequences.

Martial Arts flicks its ridic..

but some of the best I've liked are:

Snake in the monkey shadow

Iron Ox: The Tiger killer - this I particularly liked because the hero was shrewd and cunning and didn't just go out on a killing spree. I felt it had some depth to it.

I wasn't really feeling it. I only saw the first hour or so then lost interest.

seemed more like a stunt reel than a movie. All kinds of illogical plot developments, and some really bad audio sync.

The action was interesting but the story sustaining it was just not there.
260120, completely agree...
