i just realized i was two episodes behind you guys... the last one i saw was the jack's appendix removal

anyway, the way i see lost is
- lots of REFERENCES to stuff, lots of stuff, but not necessarily anything more than nods
- lots of POTENTIALLY WACK explanations for plot happenings, which hopefully are red herrings

the whole Dharma thing - you could say Dharma were this all powerful organization capable of creating amazing monsters just to watch their backyard and conducting fascinating experiments... but, i mean, what the fuck happened to them. Dharma is obviously a sham to me... they're not the real force behind the island, they're just some people who happened upon it before Ben dispensed with them. all 'mysticism' and 'fate' explanations also smack of wackness - the explanation needs to be a decent science fiction idea.

now, in the Forbidden Planet, the loan survivor (except for his wife and daughter) wiped out his colleagues (fellow explorers) by accessing ancient alien technology that interfaced with his mind. one device boosted his IQ enormously, another device allowed him to fabricate things with his mind (though it was only his subconscious mind that was strong enough to create anything drastic). this sounds like Ben to me - not an a supervillain or anything, but very smart, knows many languages somehow, and has the overbearing confidence of everyone who knows him ("these people are going to war with Ben... and Ben's going to win").

and another thing that just occurred to me, y'all know how the 'subconscious' thing all started with Sigmund Freud, right? and Freud's big thing was infant sexuality and the oepidus complex, that was his first conjecture about what the subconscious contains. well, i was thinking how all the mothers were dying (p.s. was it only baby girls who were a problem? cause that would fit perfectly with the electra complex) - i suspect it's due to the minds of the unconscious babies. that's why everyone thinks claire's baby is so special... like he's born without any evil in his subconscious... maybe he's some sort of potential jesus
