Alchemist is clearly a producer who is rapping (but SOMETIMES he does hit one), and Evidence i've NEVER rated as a rapper. he always sounds like Alchemist taught him how to rap.

One of my favorites.

Alchemist’s flow just only works on certain beats, IMO.

I think I enjoy him more in a group setting because he stands out more. He and Rakaa made a lot of sense as a group bc their styles were so different.

These days he's a little more hit or miss for me. I never mind him, often enjoy his stuff, but it rarely stands out for me. (I know it does for others, and that's cool.)

interesting point that makes sense. But for me personally I started liking him a lot more when he went solo. Feels like he grew a lot as a rapper subject matter and topic wise, and that’s what made him really click for me.

I sort of feel like he lost a lot of his sound/style in that process.

I get the subject matter thing. But when I hear him now, he sounds less unique in terms of actual rhyme style, voice, structure.

I'll go back and listen more soon to try and pinpoint what I mean. But this made me go back to Dilated's first 2 records. They've held up really well!

You’ve got Dilated Ev, Weatherman Ev, and now Unlearning Ev. He definitely switched his style up in recent years and I could see why it might not be for everybody.

Might seem contradictory because I generally don’t like needless cursing in R&B, and The Dream IMO is one of the main ones who kinda took it over the top in that direction.

But damn if he doesn’t have some jams that just flat out sound good. His early albums also hold a lot of positive nostalgia for me, so I’m ready for this.

Otherwise looks like a quiet week, but next week I believe Larry June, Syd, and Rome Streetz are all dropping so that’ll be a big week for me.

It’s a sequel that actually sounds like a sequel, he didn’t just name it that to get some hype and then put out a totally different album. It’s right in that lane from his prime. I’ve been playing it a lot and to me it’s at least a 7/10 with a handful of songs that I’ve got on repeat, so I’m happy with it.

Always good to hear Kiss rap, and he kills this IMO. Cool & Dre did the beat. Cooks did his thing with the long hook, but I always want to hear a verse from him too - that’s my only complaint here.

i'm not the BIGGEST Black Milk fan but i like him. just surprised no one else mentioned it so shouting it out in case people missed it.

I’m curious why he dropped a single so close to his recent album release, that’s not on the album. But happy it dropped, obviously.

Pete Rock, Alchemist, Havoc, Conductor Williams, V Don, and 9th Wonder all got a beat on the album, and Denny Laflare has 3.

Sovren has a beat on there too which is interesting….she did Hell on Earth pt. 2(which was a banger) for Westside Gunn 4-5 years ago and I’m not sure if she got any other major placements after that - and was recently arguing with WSG on twitter. Looks like they’re cool now, if she’s on this album.

Rare to get 3 albums that I’ve been anticipating, all in the same day.

I really like the album, but this one I want to keep playing.

Larry June - I think that’s maybe his most well rounded album that I’ve heard - lots of different producers, and it’s still cohesive. Only song I don’t like is the Swizz one. Overall, great album. I had it on repeat most of the day yesterday while doing a lot of driving, and then got to Syd’s album last night.

almost through the Nia Archives album as i type. it's fire. listened to the Rome Streetz last night. dope, but i wasn't expecting the mixtape feel it gave. also, the Leon Bridges four pack is very good.

pleasant surprise in that the album lists almost every song with an explicit label but there's only 2 songs worthy. as I've gotten older I **HATE** cussing in R&B

I've been a fan for as long as she's been putting out songs, and this is the culmination of it all.

there's this singer name King Sis and she's hitting a thousand with everything she's put out. IMO Syd had the 3rd best release cause that Nao Yoshioka BANGS

I love the way he raps. The only beat I don’t like is ALC’s(too simple, it’s like the intro to the beat just keeps looping and the real beat never kicks in).

But overall this is heat. Havoc gave him a banger, and 95 Mega On Mushrooms(Denny Laflare beat) is just ridiculous. So raw. Belt to Ass is another banger - this album starts real strong.

I Don’t Know is just pure 94-95. In a great way. Beat sounds so familiar, I was trying to figure out who else used that sample. I was thinking Boyz II Men - Vibin Remix(with Treach, Craig Mack, Method Man), and Ill Al Skratch - I’ll Take Her. One complaint though - nobody wanting to pay R&B singers to sing the hooks is a problem on songs like these. I wish he got somebody to do that hook.

Great album though - one of the best of the year IMO.

i love how it has a mixtape feel. i'm THEE BIGGEST sucker for an album where the songs are blended.

I Don't Know is my favorite song. Was not expecting to hear anyone rap over a early 90s ass smooth beat that would have a woman on an R&B hook, in 2026. You still hear rappers rap over boom bap beats, of course, especially in the underground, but THAT SPECIFIC type of beat? Almost never.

Anyways, as you said, definitely reminds me of I'll Take Her and because it's that kinda beat it supposed to have a girl on the hook, wish he would have gone one to do it.

One other early observation I had that I forgot to mention - the Pete Rock beat reminds me of a Pete Rock album interlude that I always think: “I wish that was longer and somebody rapped over it”.

He's been in the El Michels Affair and Big Crown Records orbit, and has played with everyone in the studio. This thing is aiming far and wide in terms of genre and sound, but it's also super cohesive.

I’ve been playing Mystic River off this, which is dope. But even though there were 4 other songs available, I waited for the whole album to drop. About to listen.

Battlecat has never fallen off - there’s nothing I can see skipping here. Beats are all good- great, Kurupt sounds good. Not prime Kurupt, but still pretty good.

My only initial complaint is something nobody can do anything about - Nate Dogg would’ve absolutely smoked so many of these hooks, and I can’t help but imagine hearing him on this. And the hooks here are good, but I can’t help but think of Nate on them.

I’m glad this dropped.

The clips on their YouTube page have my interest piqued for sure.

i listened to their first album many times and every time walked away remembering nearly nothing about it

after a bit, I thought: "oh, maybe that's a sign"

but maybe this one will change my tune

The guests on the first album felt disjointed and almost watered the album down IMO.

To like this album, you have to take a liking to JD Beck's vocals as he took the lead on the majority of the singing on the album, but I've been playing the album non-stop since it dropped.

Tastes are subjective of course, so it's entirely possible this isn't your cup of tea.

i checked out the new Tyga (aka Starface) album...his 80s album. i thought it was gonna be him ripping off Tory Lanez "Alone At Prom" which i already expected to be bad because that's a classic album and Tyga could never come close. It was worse. This might be one of the worst albums i've ever heard and that's coming from a bigger Tyga fan than most who has listened to all of, and enjoyed a fair amount of, his output since his popularity has waned. it's like he told AI to make him an album of Fenix Flexin's "Rubberz" songs, just in his voice. i don't KNOW if it IS AI, but AI copying an already bad AI song (Rubberz) has be the only explanation for the level of "writing" on this album. someone told me Tyga turned off the comments on his post promoting it, which is probably smart.

Really liked it

This album is quite enjoyable. The production is what brought me into it. I love Homeboy Sandman, but some of the prior albums didn't grab me, so I didn't give them as many spins as I see myself doing with this album. Masta Ace and Cee-Lo features, though I don't know if that is a legit Cee-Lo feature or a long sample. Can someone clue me in?
