3048716, New Releases????
Posted by doitall76, Fri May-09-25 08:05 AM
I feel like it has been dry for a bit with new music. I could be wrong and that the algorithm is screwing me over.

Does anyone know of some good stuff that has been released in the past month or so?

The new Wu joint is dope.

Peace

3048720, i mean, i don't really know what you listen to...

but there's always a New Music post in General Discussion every month that mista5k updates every week, very thoroughly.

i would start there if you feel like you're missing out.

he at least lists just about EVERYTHING that comes out each week, and there's some light discussion of the music. i'm always in there discussing the music at least.

I had always come here for the music discussion and thought that the General Discussion was for everything else. So, while I have looked over there in the past, I had always come back to the Lesson for music discussion.

It has been a little quieter, but here's some stuff on my list from the last month or so that I've listened to and plan on listening to again. (A few items might be from slightly earlier.)

Definitely light on hip hop.

3048723, i do think it's been a weird year
Posted by thebigfunk, Fri May-09-25 10:05 AM
It's not even been that dry, but there hasn't been a ton jumping out at me.

Which makes me think my head probably isn't engaged in the right way, distracted by... well, everything, lol.

But some records I was really excited about just didn't hit.

Maybe we should start our Best-So-Far of 2025 post? Start sorting through everything.

That said: the Lafourcade album and the Thackray album, those two have already gotten a lot of play and they've only been out a few weeks.

I only just played through that Yukimi record for the first time but enjoyed it a lot.

3048725, 2025 hip-hop I've had in rotation
Posted by Ishwip, Fri May-09-25 01:04 PM
Fly Anakin - Forever Dream
MIKE - Showbiz! (Pinball 2 also dropped today)
Alchemist, Larry June, 2 Chainz - Life is Beautiful
Black Milk & Fat Ray - Food from the Gods
Westside Gun - 12 and Heels Have Eyes
Curren$y & Harry Fraud - Never Catch Us
Previous Industries (Open Mike Eagle) - Evergreen Plaza
Henny L.O. and ewonee - Coldest Season Ever
Blu & August Fanon - 40

Some other stuff here and there I'm probably forgetting or haven't gotten around to yet (pretty sure Boldy James and Benny the Butcher have dropped 1-2 projects each?), but idk, the year has felt pretty cool to me so far.

Some veteran boom-bap/traditionalist/over-40 releases (Alc, Blu, Black Milk, Gunn, Wu), the younger dudes with the heavy sample based stuff I like (MIKE, Anakin, Henny L.O.), to the "art rap"/nerdy/weirder stuff (Previous Industries), etc.

I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!

Flip it enough? Flip these. Flip off. Go flip some f*cking burgers.(c)Kno

3048728, Blu’s album is probably my favorite rap album of the year

so far. But it’s felt fairly slow to me on that front.

Little Simz and Rome Streetz/Conductor Williams are the upcoming albums with release dates that I’m looking forward to.

Hoping the Clipse and Jericho Jackson albums drop soon, too.
3048729, Gotta mention Lloyd Banks, that’s a close number 2
Posted by DJR, Fri May-09-25 08:16 PM
Banks has really found his lane in the 2020’s and it’s great to see.
