3044914, Call me crazy but I think "8 AM in Charlotte" is an homage to Phonte/LB

I know Phonte is not from Charlotte. But we can pull up recordings of him rapping like this, over beats like this many years ago. Don't let the video throw you off because it will, listen to audio

If you heard that beat, then heard that "YO" a hip-hop fan is going to expect to hear Pooh & Tay. Then the rap style is so reminiscent of Phonte, I don't know how to feel.

Would love to hear an "9AM in Durham" or something like that. The "8 AM in Charlotte" beat even pairs well with their documentary.

In any case, Drake dropping a song that sounds like that as a single is a positive. Now you can't use the "dated" tag to diminish a sound that people still enjoy.
3044917, Drake's breakout mixtape has a track ft. Phonte & Elzhi

produced by 9th Wonder

He's always shown love to Phonte/Little Brother as inspirations

I didn't think about it when I made this post, but I should have noted that Drake has already paid homage openly. It's a slippery slope but at least he did show love.

So, maybe.

Song is dope. I’d listen to Drake if a lot of his music sounded like this. It’s wild how much better Phonte is at rapping than him though
3044948, Technically I'd call them even. Drake's 360 is just shallow & vapid

He can hit all the flows and patterns, but it's so hard with me to identify with the man rapping.
3044951, Yeah - that’s exactly it

Drake rarely says anything I care about. There’s just not much there to connect with.

However, him rapping over good beats like this is dope. It sounds good, and obviously that matters lol.

I knew someone has probably already said something about this.

I'll check the podcast out
