3042722, LL Cool J album produced by Q-Tip might actually happen?
Posted by DJR, Thu May-04-23 06:13 PM
A snippet of a song dropped, and to my ears this sounds great. I’m intrigued.

Here for it if it ever drops.
3042724, Yeah

Yep
3042727, Honestly, I just want to hear what Q-Tip cooks up
Posted by natenate101, Fri May-05-23 01:19 AM
production-wise. Man has still got it for sure. The last Tribe album, his work with Danny Brown and tracks for Roc Marci and Busta have all sounded great, and vary in terms of style.

LL sounds solid in this snippet but the beat sounds really nice.

Finger still crossed for Kamaal to release The Last Zulu, whatever he has in the stash, sometime before I hit old age.
3042729, Agree with that

Love that beat and LL… “solid” was a good way to put it.

If we can get an album of “solid” LL at this point over Q-Tip production - I’ll be very much into an album like that.
3042739, he's talking about it on a couple of recent interviews.

I hope somebody got a rip because this song sounds amazing to me. LL said it's his favorite album he's ever done on Twitter from what I've heard
3042753, First 1 producer album for him since Marley?

I’m pretty sure, anyways.

His second half career albums were often all over the place. Locking in with Q-Tip…man, this could be great. I really, really like this beat, looking forward to hearing the whole song.
3042762, RE: I think the only other stuff he's done with one producer
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Mon May-08-23 08:25 PM
is the stuff he does with Marley-I remember him saying in an interview that every summer Marley comes to his house and stays in his guest house, and they work on music together

the worst thing about those albums is that while he was competing against all the new guys coming up, he didn't really have anything to prove to anyone with regard to albums. I wish we got an LL album of him doing just what he wants to do, and I think this is the one where we get it.

I've liked every solo Q-Tip album, that last ATCQ album grew on me but I didn't really see it as a Q-Tip produced album since it had other producers on it and guest musicians playing here & there (but so was Q-Tip's 2nd & 4th album) but it still could've used some input from Ali M. on it.

Anyway I can definitely see Q-Tip giving LL sort of a flashback era vibe but keeping it up-to-date at the same time, I would like to hear a track or two beforehand to see if it would be worthy to release an entire album though; it would be a shame for them to just release an entire album then find out it's not good but to still try to push it on to the people; but anything would be better than that last LL album "Authentic".

3042817, Beat is pretty tight

3042818, Nas, Em, Fat Joe, Rick Ross & Saweetie

were supposedly confirmed as a part of the features:

3042824, If Eminem pulls that bullshit he did on Nas, Griselda, Royce, etc.
Posted by DJR, Mon May-15-23 04:33 PM
where he is rapping a bunch of meaningless shit in that dorky ass flow for like 2 minutes straight trying “steal the show”, I’m throwing my phone out the window.

Just spit a solid 16 and call it a day.

Love that we’re finally getting a Nas and LL collab though!
3042825, honestly, i'd be surprised if that verse is listenable...
Posted by spitfire, Mon May-15-23 05:18 PM
Uncle L is Eminem's goat tho, so maybe he won't go overboard.

it would be interesting to hear Rozay and Saweetie over Q-Tip production, but obviously the Nas collab is the big draw here.

Will this be the first time since One Love for Nas & Tip to get together on wax?
3042829, Q-Tip did “American Way” for Nas

off the Street’s Disciple album.

That’s a good point that Eminem loves LL…but that worries me even more that he’ll try and do too much. If so, I hope his verse is the last one on the song, that way I can just skip to the next track once he starts up, lol.

Overall though, I’m very excited for this album. The tour too…hoping to see LL/Roots at Barclays in Brooklyn.
3042831, oh word?

3042823, Unlike Dr.Dre, Q-Tip can work with legends
Posted by javi222, Mon May-15-23 12:33 PM
and release material
3042826, don't jinx it now...
Posted by spitfire, Mon May-15-23 05:19 PM
I was HYPED for that Oh My God / Rakim album on aftermath
3042828, Sounds like this album is already done, and LL has a whole stadium tour
Posted by DJR, Mon May-15-23 06:05 PM
this summer with The Roots. So it seems this is a done deal?

3042868, we coulda had it
Posted by fontgangsta, Mon May-22-23 11:08 AM
but dre just wanted rakim to talk about shooting ppl SMH
you dont bring in a legend like rakim to change him
3042871, not even why Dre signed him.
Posted by tariqhu, Mon May-22-23 01:48 PM
dre likes breaking new talent rather than dealing with established folks.
3043320, Damn.. LL Cool J actually worked with Dr.Dre
Posted by javi222, Thu Jul-06-23 02:40 PM
before calling Q-Tip…

and I thought I was making assumptions lol
3043333, Dre's gotta feel some typa way about this.
Posted by Brew, Mon Jul-10-23 09:13 AM
Like if LL just wasn't feeling what he himself was doing on the tracks (his explanation), he could've called Dre back and got back to work and improved on what they were already doing.

But instead he scrapped the whole thing and called a whole ass new producer to do the beats.

Damn that's harsh. Haha.
3043621, yeah you jinxed it

3042876, this is so good

3043321, Tour was postponed until fall, and the single still hasn’t dropped
Posted by DJR, Thu Jul-06-23 10:56 PM
Was going to see LL/The Roots the last week of June.

Hoping I can still catch them in the fall…and that the album drops by then and is dope.
3043323, Had not heard he postponed some dates
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jul-07-23 09:12 AM
Apparently that happened back in June. I actually finally bought tickets for the show this week so when I saw your post I thought they JUST postponed the whole tour. I guess it is possible they run into more problems and more dates get rescheduled.

I had been wanting to hear from people going to the show to see what exactly it was like. I was a bit surprised when I checked this week and saw it didn't start until August. Now I know why.
3043339, Damnit, they took NY off the tour!!
Posted by DJR, Wed Jul-12-23 09:41 AM
The Rock the Bells festival is in NY in August - perhaps that was affecting ticket sales?

But I really want to see LL and The Roots together, so it’s probably Boston or DC or nothing for me.
3043332, Hmmmm need to hear more. I’m not convinced that it’s gonna be dope.

3043623, Let's see...
