3040457, So Steve Lacy is going to get away with stealing Toro Y Moi’s

sound?

First time I heard Bad Habits I thought it was Toro.

I know Steve started off making beats back in 2013 and did
stuff for the internet and many other artists , but his voice and music
sounds too much like Toro

Crazy how Toro spearheaded Chillwave back in 2010, and really
didn’t get the recognition that he deserved.

3040465, this kind of stuff happens all the time

nobody gives a shit about this anymore (not that they should or shouldn't, just that they don't)

I agree about Toro though
3040480, I'm just surprised that he's the one blowing up before Syd.

3040631, Syd blew up all things considered.

3040483, Toro is constantly reinventing himself while staying

consistent in his releases

I'm a big Toro fan and I think that he and Steve Lacy can coexist - doesn't sound to me like Steve stole his sound at all. Inspired by it? Sure. But Toro's catalogue is so damn deep regardless.
3040500, That Bad Habits song is the worst Alt R&B song on the radio I've heard

in a long time.

Drives me nuts how basic it is.

3040502, i've got kids in middle school, errybody loves it

i'm like this basic ass shit does kinda bop tho *nods head*

all the way to the grammy's is crazy (as my son would say lol)
3040550, All pop/alt music is basic…That’s why it plays and sells.
Posted by allStah, Sat Nov-19-22 07:27 PM
Either way, it’s good music and everyone can enjoy it.

With all the mumbling/ass popping music on the radio, and this is what
you got beef with?

This shit bumps…I feel he borrows the sound from Toro, but it still bumps.
3040551, What Toro y Moi projects should I listen to first

if I love Steve Lacey, but I'm not up on Toro?

My favorite toro song:

Now listen to to Bad Habits …some similarities.
3040574, thanks, I'm on it n/m

3040576, my intro was Anything In Return and I was hooked

3040588, That my favorite Toro y Moi album and one of my favorite albums
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Wed Nov-23-22 11:01 AM
in general over the past decade. So many songs like “say that” and rose quartz that stay in rotation.
3040589, same, Rose Quartz evokes a lot of emotion for me

was going through a lot when that album dropped
3040613, Give you the world is my JAM

I stay putting it on playlists with Redbone, Prototype, and whatever goofy time stamp song title aligns with the song I call 'Sweet Thang (Thank you)' on that last Childish Gambino albums.

3040738, I also get a Miguel vibe on some of his vocals...

Not all the time. Just listening to his new record made me want to put on Kaleidoscope Dreams for some reason.
3040740, first of all, this post is an AllStah W for mentioning Toro Dogg
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Dec-08-22 12:31 PM
one of my favorite artists of 2010-forward and perhaps all time.

I never made the connection, having listened to both, but I'm gonna check Bad Habits again.
3040742, people love that guy
Posted by Crash Bandacoot, Thu Dec-08-22 04:00 PM
went to the show at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and everybody
was screaming like teeny boppers. seems like a superstar in the making.
the album is my jam.
3040749, That’s good shit.. no hate here.

I just hope people realize that the sounds of this era started back in 2010, which was
Influenced by new wave and sounds of the 80s
