3035313, Better Ghost Album?
Posted by Beamer6178, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
Reading his interview on here was interesting. He was going through some shit but Ironman WAS that shit. Just goes to show how much we know.

I loved SC as well, but both he and the writer put it way above Ironman, something I could NEVER do.

I may do a back to back playoff to assess but I seem to remember Ironman had more bangers than SC.

If you don't have these albums as the top two, it's probably best we don't speak lol.

Poll question: Better Ghost Album?

3035314, Supreme Clientele. easily

I also have The Pretty Toney LP over Ironman
3035321, Really?

>I also have The Pretty Toney LP over Ironman

May have to revisit Pretty Toney.

Beat The Clock
Last Night
Holla
Run

Outside of these joints,
I don't remember much of it.

Pretty Tony was when Ghost started to water down his rhymes. Its not even messing with Bulletproof Wallets
3035325, Pretty Tony felt like Ghost trying to make a hit, "Mainstream"
Posted by Adwhizz, Fri Oct-29-21 12:46 PM
album since he was signed to Def Jam

There were still some heaters on this album: Run, Holla, Beat the Clock,Keisha's House

but for the most part he lost that abstract/stream of conscious delivery and lyrical content
3035326, Yeah, that album was Def Jam trying to fit a square peg...
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Oct-29-21 01:00 PM
...into the proverbial round hole. There was definitely some heat on it: the songs above, "Metal Lungies," "Kunta Fly Shit," and "Be This Way." But a lot of it was them trying to turn Ghost into the next ultra-marketable Def Jam star.

They actually let him **be** Ghostface on "Fishscale."
3035335, Personally, I love the Pretty Toney album
Posted by makaveli, Sat Oct-30-21 09:28 AM
I also love the Wizard of Poetry album which doesn’t get talked about enough IMO.

Agreed! Pretty Toney - Fishscale - Ghostdeini - he had an extended run - one of the better rap catalogues of the 00’s.
3035338, A phenomenal run
Posted by makaveli, Sat Oct-30-21 01:10 PM
Perhaps the best of that time period.
3035397, I'm in this line. The Pretty Toney album bangs

Be this way, Kunta Fly Shit, all the joints named above were tight.

Tush was the only outright miss on the joint.

3035327, Supreme Clientele is better than 99.9% of all albums
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Oct-29-21 01:03 PM
I got **maybe** 20 to 25 hip-hop albums better. MAYBE. So saying that it's better than "Iron Man" isn't a dis to "Iron Man." "Iron Man" is still great.
3035331, Ironman is better

3035340, Its Supreme Clientele

Iron Man is a great album but more of a group album of Ghost, Rae and Cap. Also when it dropped I think it was looked at inferior to OB4CL as well as Liquid Swords at the time and didn't get the praise it deserved.

SC meanwhile came out after a lot of mediocre Wu albums, Tical 2000, Bobby Digital, Uncontrolled Substance. You can disagree with mediocre but they weren't the classics we were used to but then Ghost came thru with another classic with SC and back on top again.

Ghost kept it going with a string of pretty damn good albums but nothing quite as good as SC was. Rae had a little resurgence and there has been some pretty good albums since but really the last straight up classic the Wu had was Suprme Clientele to me.
3035358, And that’s the reason I think SC is slightly overrated
Posted by Anonymous, Mon Nov-01-21 06:57 PM
We were starving for some classic Wu so when we got SC after the other second wave albums it was like finding water in a desert.

Ironman came after the two best solos and honestly two of the best hip-hop albums of all-time and while a slight drop off from those two, was STILL a classic.

I think people actually forget how dope Ironman actually is. Every single track is an absolute banger.

SC to me suffered from some skits and I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ghost’s rhyming for the sake of rhyming. Don’t get me wrong, I love SC, but I much prefer his more focused style that he had on Ironman.
3035361, Suzie, throw it out the window! Suzie!

>>SC to me suffered from some skits

that part seemed less scripted and more authentic lololsmh
3035428, each album was 64 minutes and change
Posted by Beamer6178, Mon Nov-08-21 11:43 PM
SC has 10 minutes of filler. that alone gives IM the edge.

And Ghost by far has been the most consistent and reliable Wu solo artist.

But Pretty Toney over IM? GTFOHWTB, respectfully.
3035344, Ironman.. it's close tho

3035499, Upon comparative listens, Ironman is pulling away
Posted by Beamer6178, Mon Nov-15-21 08:48 AM
The hook on "One" encourages sexual assault + Wu-Tang contributions outshine Theodore Unit so yeah, Ironman.

Yeah… I’ve heard people complain about the Glaciers of Ice hook but no one mentions this one it seems lol

3035515, The Wildflower lyrics aren’t much better

but that's a relationship gone wrong.

3035558, everyone has their lines in the sand
Posted by thebigfunk, Thu Nov-18-21 12:19 PM
but both have more than their share of ignorant moments... I'm not sure one's ignorance impacts its quality more than the other.

In terms of the original post, I always assumed SC was the acknowledged diamond in his discography. It's too long by a song or two and unnecessary interludes) but, to me, it's where Ghost really honed his style and energy -- he sounds like a totally different rapper in a lot of ways. Beat for beat and rhyme for rhyme, Iron Man doesn't pack near the same punch, even though it's a solid record in its own right.

I agree with others that Ghost might have one of the more consistent long-term discographies in hip hop though. The pure misses are pretty rare.

3035569, When everyone understood Ghost vs when no one did

Lyrics - Ironman
Music - Supreme Clientele

I love Ghost but when the artist himself can’t explain his lyrics….

I hate Wildflower tho. Ive had rough breakups before but that song is psycho to me

That Redman verse on Buck 50.

Depends on which day you catch me.

But I’ll probably always lean Ironman because I’m a lyrics guy and that Jackson Pollack Kool Kieth style is not my preference. No shade on Ultra (Ego Trippin is awesome).

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

I think Fishscale deserves to be part of the poll. I really is quite good.
3035606, Ironman and it's not close
Posted by Nodima, Mon Nov-22-21 11:14 AM
Well, as not close as #4 vs. #32 can be anyway.

Posted by micMajestic, Mon Nov-22-21 05:36 PM
It's a bunch of dope Wu songs. Supreme Clientele is Ghost's album.
3035616, No one said that shit when it dropped

At all…

Ironman was Ghost’s solo album featuring the entire clan just like the rest of the members that came before.
