3034302, c'mon bruh Westside Gunn -Sincerely Adolf!!!

I haven't listened to it a bunch because I need Jesus right now, but this joint is fire right? talk about it.

Do ya'll like the extensive stove god features?

How freaking boom bap is this?

Is this the best HWH or just the best since HWH 3?

Absolute fire.

>Do ya'll like the extensive stove god features?

Yes. On an album full of strong features, he stole the show for me. Can’t wait for his next album, and it’s not hometown bias! He’s ridiculously entertaining.

>How freaking boom bap is this?

Man....I was initially disappointed at the lack of Daringer.....until I heard. Beats are top notch.

>Is this the best HWH or just the best since HWH 3?

I loved 7. That was my favorite. This one is right there. Time will tell.

It sounds like someone advised him to say 'hey yo' then start rapping with minimal shenanigans and he tried for real to do it. I'm glad he did it.

I'm not the right person to ask about Stove cuz I like him. He has at least one line that catches me on just about anything he's on.

And yeah, them booms and baps are up on the scene. It can be done.

I need to listen to the whole series again. There's hella good times throughout..that's for sure. If he really does stop after the 2nd half of 8, he will have had a fun azz run during this 'stay in your lane but do it right' era. So many guys like him got a chance to shine that they probably wouldn't have gotten in that 'you have to try to be multiple things on an album or you're not going to be viewed as important' era.
3034342, really good. really weird too

lots of warbled, fuzzy, and otherwise distorted samples, roughly chopped. almost like boom bap with a vaporwave aesthetic, or maybe oneohtrix point never's replica era, or constrobuz's beats on mfn exquire's projects from the early 2010s, or some combination of all of the above. i can't quite put my finger on it but i do like it quite a lot. i feel like there was some of this sound on mach-hommy's pray for haiti but it was less dialed up and the instrumentals were more straighforward. some the beats on HWH8 are a truly experimental and feel like a logical progression to a more pyschedelic and lavish sound, coming from the grimy, dark, and moody post-alchemist daringer sound that dominated most of griselda's early and middle catalog. there are also a tasteful number of drumless beats, mostly towards the end. they're a nice break from the crunchy snares found in the first half of the project. some of the features are expected (conway, boldy, jada) but others are from out of nowhere (sauce walka?!) and they all kill it. the only lackluster verses are from westside and that's expected at this point in his career as it's known that he mostly gets by on his delivery and has an occasional truly good bar here and there. overall a very enjoyable listen that i wanted to immediately go back to. exemplary stuff!
3034357, Exactly as good as I expected and wanted

Love the production, he's mostly tolerable (heavy guest list helps).

I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!

3034367, This is top 5 WSG for me I think.
Posted by stone_phalanges, Thu Sep-02-21 09:32 AM
Very good album. I do think his rapping was better before he started "getting better"
3034406, Probably his strongest album after Flygod.
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Sep-03-21 12:19 PM
Have to admit I'm getting tired of the Hitler gimmick at this point. Quality music is rare these days, so I suppose I have to stomach it on some level.

On a positive note, he seems to have gotten the best out of all the guests on here and Westside wasn't too much of a slouch in comparison. He rapped better on Flygod to me, so that's why I can't rate it better than that release.
3034411, Stove's voice reminds me of Gigan on King Geedorah
Posted by Nodima, Fri Sep-03-21 02:02 PM
So he'll always be too big to fail for me

I just love that weird nasally compression

Production has a hazy vibe that reminds me of that and Edan's Beauty & The Beat too

This is going to get a LOOOOT of play this fall, especially as the summer heat wave breaks and I start walking to work instead of taking the bus.

3034416, This album is really dope.

I feel like WSG is really hitting his creative stride as of late. I liked/loved all four of the projects he dropped in 2020, and this is very much a worthy progression.

And it's kind of amazing how Stove God makes everything better,
3034892, He's getting better and better overall
Posted by Numba_33, Wed Sep-29-21 09:08 AM
>And it's kind of amazing how Stove God makes everything

especially when it comes to crafting good hooks, which is something that's pretty rare for a lot of underground rappers.

I expect his next solo album to be much better than Reasonable Drought for sure.

If so, that's gonna be really fun. He rapped up a storm on Drought.
3034954, He’s never had a verse that bored me
Posted by DJR, Fri Oct-01-21 02:40 PM
He always says something clever or funny. And he’s been killing his guest appearances. Cant wait for another album.

First rapper from the Cuse to ever truly make it to this point - I’m rooting extra hard for him.
3034889, Side B is crazy too
Posted by DJR, Tue Sep-28-21 09:39 PM
This might be Gunn’s best overall project. Need more time with it. But it’s definitely up there.
3034926, Hold up, y'all are talking about 2 different albums.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Thu Sep-30-21 07:41 PM
I was so confused.
3034928, Yeah he put out side A and side B separately
Posted by DJR, Thu Sep-30-21 07:55 PM
3034983, Sooooo, what's with all the Hitler talk and imagery?

I guess I get what he sayin but still. Feel like somebody shoulda gave him the *Jonah gif* at the meeting.

“The whole Hitler Wears Hermes, you know the title, man, was just, I wanted to come with, you know, some of the grimiest but flyest shit I could come up with, cuz like, that’s basically my whole style, you know. Just the grimiest, flyest shit I could think of, so. You know, everybody was already used that Devil Wears Prada, and I’m just like, you know I want to flip that right there. Like that was something, I just wanted to come with somebody that soon as you hear it, you be like, ‘Yo that shit’s crazy, but fly at the same time.’ So that’s how I really came up with

3035238, It’s literally just the title
Posted by DJR, Wed Oct-20-21 06:53 PM
There is no “Hitler stuff” beyond the title.
3035241, That is far from true.
Posted by Numba_33, Wed Oct-20-21 09:53 PM
He's sold tee shirts, hoodies, and paintings with the Hitler image many times over the years now.
3035242, Ah my bad - I was thinking music wise

3034986, Worst MC taken seriously of all-time
Posted by Anonymous, Mon Oct-04-21 10:06 AM
3035026, I would like you to elaborate
Posted by stone_phalanges, Tue Oct-05-21 11:56 AM
Not to be argumentative, just curious as to what about his style, content, sound etc. that doesn't work for you.

(full disclosure I'm from Buffalo so kinda biased)

I like Westside nearly as much as Benny and Conway. There's something about his blend of fashion, ultraviolence, jailtalk and wrestling that just clicks. Sort of like how an abstract work of art doesn't look like anything, but I can still be beautiful because of how the mix of shapes and colors appeal to your eyes.

His rhymes are like a salad of interesting phrases (plus some annoying ad-libs). He also puts songs together better than just about any else out which is the main draw honestly.

I wonder how you see it though.
3035257, Best production/guest list of the year on this album
Posted by DJR, Thu Oct-21-21 11:22 PM
He gets the beats, the guest verses, and directs the whole aesthetic. Cooks and Rome Streetz are killing on here. Conway, Benny, Kiss, etc. This is a really good album.
3035306, He’s absolute dog shit and I don’t trust ppl who think he’s a good rapper
Posted by guru0509, Thu Oct-28-21 10:26 AM
3035308, Not a good MC, but makes good albums
Posted by DJR, Thu Oct-28-21 03:02 PM
Conductor Williams is one of my new favorite producers.

Sovren, who made “Hell on Earth Pt. 2” is basically a complete unknown.

He’s finding talent and puts people on and using the platform he has. Can’t be mad at that.

Griselda’s roster is a monster right now: Benny, Conway, Mach, Boldy, Rome Streetz, and I believe Stove God is joining too.
3035328, Idk he comes across corny / repetitive
Posted by guru0509, Fri Oct-29-21 01:12 PM
The second he raps on a song it’s ruined .

I’m glad they branched out from using only derringer beats

Boldy was hot long before GxFR

I don’t listen to any of those other guys except Benny and Conway

I’ll be honest - I can do one verse on a song.

Stove God is entertaining as hell IMO. Reasonable Drought was a great debut. He’s got a new album coming in the next few months. He’s worth checking for if you haven’t already.
3035350, entertaining as hell=/= good rapper...im already suspicious lol

Whenever someone says that I automatically assume they can't rap, and it's gonna be a project where I'm gonna want an instrumental version only.

ill listen though
3035353, Why doesnt Roc Marciano rap over beats like this anymore lol
Posted by guru0509, Mon Nov-01-21 12:40 PM
all he uses now is that sparse drumless shit

Posted by DJR, Mon Nov-01-21 05:24 PM
But I could see his style either not being for everybody or taking some time to grow on some.

He’s one of my favorites right now. He held down that whole album vocally by himself - no guests, even on the hooks. Hell of a debut IMO, and I’m excited to see where he goes from here. And I love Roc’s production on that album.
3035364, This is v dope, original flow..clever punchlines & these beats my God
Posted by guru0509, Tue Nov-02-21 09:07 AM
i hope Westside Gunn doesnt ruin too many of his songs in the future.

3035404, Ha, dope. Figured you’d like it
Posted by DJR, Thu Nov-04-21 07:55 PM
WSG definitely gave him a bigger platform by putting him all over his FlyGod is an Awesome God 2 mixtape, summer of 2020. And then he put him all over HWH8 side A, where he really stole the show IMO. So I think he’s done nothing but help his career.

On a Hot 97 interview with Rosenberg recently, Cooks said he’s got two new albums done - one with Roc and one with other producers(he didn’t say who), and one of them will drop in the next two months(didn’t say which one). I’m ready.
