3034328, The Roots are peerless, but that's part of the problem

The Roots have taken the art of hip-hop and made a nearly 30 year career in a genre that celebrates image and hits. They've done that by being one of if not *the* most consistent acts in popular music.

But their selling point - artistically challenging and thought-provoking music that's off-kilter from the main stream - is why they wouldn't win in a Verzus.

Outside of the ten to twelve greatest hits by The Fugees crew, there are literally at least two dozen songs by The Roots that are better from an artistic and aesthetic point of view.

But in a Versuz battle, it's all about the hits and the nostalgia they create.

Like some mentioned the only songs from The Roots that did that to folks of our generation are You Got Me, maybe The Seed, maybe What They Do, maybe Proceed.

The Roots losing in a Versuz is less about their impact and legacy as a band - which is unmatched - and more about the format.

The Roots going up against The Fugees is like Sugar Ray Leonard going up against Larry Holmes. Pound for pound Sugar was a better boxer but Holmes has that KO punch that Leonard can't duplicate.
