3033794, Aaliyah's self-titled is being re-pressed on vinyl
Posted by dagu, Thu Aug-05-21 02:38 PM
For anyone who has been wanting for a copy of this on vinyl it's at the link below.

Quantities are 10,000 in black and 4,000 in colored. This will likely sell out pretty quick; resellers will be all over it.

Also, not shipping until April 2022.
3033795, I'm torn.

I honestly think I'll pass.
Aaliyah's estate hasn't signed off on it.

It's interesting. The family says they don't approve of these releases because they want to "preserve her legacy",
but how does keeping the music from coming out do that?

I think both the One In A Million album was my Missy wake up call.
Timbaland did his thing, but Missy's vocal arrangements/producing was killer.
It's worth having just for that.

Then the Aaliyah album has some amazing production on it as well.
ALL the Static written joints are what make this album great.
I almost see that as a Playa collaboration LP.

3033796, It is an interesting debate.

The music isn't being altered so the "legacy" argument from the family is strange. I can understand if it was something like a biopic or the use of unfinished vocals or something.

If it's a matter of them not receiving what they perceive to be fair monetary compensation then that's a whole other thing.

I picked one up anyway because the only other way to get the album on wax currently is to pay $200+ for a used copy and the family doesn't get paid off of that either.
3033797, I didn't know the first pressing was rare.

That's one of the things I was prepared for when it was released.

I usually ain't.

3033802, This was the one I liked the least.

And you think “Well, I hope the next one is better”, and then she’s gone forever.

A remastered One in a Million would probably rumble some speakers.
3033803, One In a Million is “the one”

but this was a great one too.

First album had some GREAT songs but doesn’t hold up as an album like this one IMO.
3033804, It Looks Like The Entire "Blackground Records" Catalog Is Getting Re-issued

Either the owner of the label Barry Hankerson (the guy who was Aaliyah's uncle and the one who leaked the K.Rells pee pee video tape) either sold the label to someone else or he finally decided to get back in the game an re-release all the albums that were on the label.

Aaliyah in black.

One in a Million in Coke Bottle Green

both ship in March 22 for $30.

I really want a colored "Aaliyah" even tho I have the CD....I do like that Try Again is at the end of the album too.
3039050, Anyone know anything here?
Posted by DJR, Wed Aug-03-22 08:21 PM
Blackground Records went from spamming my email all last summer and fall to going silent.

It was originally supposed to ship in April, but didn’t. I believe there’s been some vinyl shortages in the world? I assume that’s the issue - would be cool if Blackground would let us know what’s going on.
3039079, Don’t know about the self titles LP, but One in A Mill reissue is out now.

3039084, The VinylMePlease version went out in April
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Aug-08-22 02:11 PM
I've had it since then.
Blackground version has been delayed to September.
The vinyl industry has seen massive delays over the past year plus, so I would just chalk this up to being another in the looooooong list of records that are coming out months later than expected. But, at the same time, it seems weird that they weren't all just produced at the same time since it seems like they're just color variants
3039087, Thanks

Figured it was another vinyl delay - but Blackground being quiet about it has been making me a little uneasy, lol.
3039088, VMP still has copies right now (without subscription)
