3032906, New Release Friday 2021-06-11
Posted by thebigfunk, Fri Jun-11-21 08:46 AM
In addition to the new Skyzoo, there's also a new Blu EP ("For Sale") with beats by SirPlus.

That expanded edition of Jessie Ware's What's Your Pleasure is out, too, a lot more new tracks than I expected. If you didn't check it last year, you should definitely give it a listen now -- easily one of my top handful of records last year.

What's everyone looking for this week? If you're just catching up on recent stuff, what are you listening to?

3032908, I told myself I wouldn't cop anything this month..

...so I could have fun for Record Store Day.
Now of course I broke that rule because, ya know, reasons.
But when the pre-orders for Skyzoo went out I called myself holding out.

So today I'm kinda upset about that I missed out on the vinyl.

BUT Record Store Day is tomorrow!
I haven't stepped foot in a brick and motor record store in over a year.
And while I have thoughts about what Record Store Day has become,
I miss record shopping a lot.
It's something my guy Troy and I get up for every year.
Planning on copping the Fantastic Vol. 2 reissue and Peace Beyond Passion tomorrow.

3032922, didn't get a close listen in

but on first listen, that Skyzoo is something else -- a lot of live instrumentation, particularly horns. Lot of nice touches and his rapping hasn't slowed down, obviously.

Blu was really good, too. Actually a really nice companion to the Skyzoo (though it stands on its own just fine). Guessing YOD will round that out really nice, especially given the feature list (Elzhi, Aesop, Blu --- crazy).

3032924, pi'erre bourne's /TLOP5/ is pretty disappointing
Posted by bearfield, Fri Jun-11-21 03:44 PM
it sounds like he found the mark mothersbaugh rugrats theme sound bank and decided to make an album using only those sounds. he's kind of always traded in vague nostaglia — i think he writes catchy melodies reminiscent of NES/SNES/sega genesis game scores — but it's a little too on the nose with the sounds he's using on /TLOP5/. the tracks just don't hit has hard as his best stuff with carti and nudy, or even /TLOP4/. i could deal with his awful rapping and singing on /TLOP4/ because the instrumentals were so good. on /TLOP5/ his rapping and singing have improved but the beats declined quite a bit. he tweeted out that the deluxe edition would have samples (whatever that means) so maybe there will be some better songs on that version

3032927, Droog and Skyzoo are both dope

Funny they dropped same day as both are super consistent and always nail exactly what I want and expect from their albums.

I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!

Flip it enough? Flip these. Flip off. Go flip some f*cking burgers.(c)Kno
