3032012, No doubt. That's Derrick Hodge on bass.
Posted by C. Thelonius, Wed Apr-21-21 05:59 PM
I used to replay that over and over to hear those bass lines.
3032018, Common has a knack for dope album openers in general.
Posted by Brew, Wed Apr-21-21 08:30 PM
Resurrection
Invocation
Time Travelin'
Soul Power
Be
Start the Show
The Dreamer
Joy & Peace

I'd even include The Neighborhood (from Nobody Smilin') and A Penny for my Thoughts (from Can I Borrow a Dollar ?) personally, although I assume those two (and maybe a couple others I *did* list) aren't as praiseworthy to others as they are to me.
3032452, RE: Common has a knack for dope album openers in general.
Posted by Birdzeye, Sat May-15-21 05:41 AM
Yeah, Common is a master of album openers.. He just know how to set an album of in synth with the overall theme and vibe of the album.

3032062, Intro is one of the best beats on the album

3032106, The Reason I Didn't Like That They Used That As The First Song...
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Sat Apr-24-21 08:21 PM
...cause "In The House" was originally off Eddie F.'s & The Untouchables compilation "Let's Get It On" which came out earlier that year; but I guess me being so into hip-hop at the time I was one of the few who even heard of that album so when "Main Ingredient" dropped it "In The House" was the first time they heard the song while I heard it plenty of times.

3032157, word?? Mine had just 5 songs... didn't know there was a full LP...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Wed Apr-28-21 09:17 AM
...crazy because that would have been one of my favorite songs of summer 94 if i had heard it

3032019, Wyclef - The Carnival Intro/Apocalypse
Posted by Ray_Snill, Wed Apr-21-21 09:42 PM
I usually skip skits but this Intro is pretty much how skits should be done with the way it blends into the first song which has the sickest beat Wyclef ever made

Also a good choice. The Apocalypse vocal sample always was dope.

I feel like Clef got labeled as corny or something but I dug this album.

That's definitely in my Kanye top 10
3032047, My Kanye top 10 would be about half College Dropout songs
Posted by DJR, Thu Apr-22-21 02:21 PM
The cool kids say that album is dated while talking up some weird, pretentious bullshit that he made later on. I say that CD is easily his most timeless work largely because it’s relatable. We Don’t Care set that album off lovely.
3032050, Let me try..work is slow

Spaceship
We Don't Care
Crack Music
Send It Up
New Slaves
Addiction

Flashing Lights
No More Parties In L.A.
Guilt Trip
I'd put Mercy over Guilt Trip but I'm not sure that counts as a Kanye West song since it wasn't from a regular album

3032107, Hi-Tek "Scratch Rappin'"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Sat Apr-24-21 08:25 PM
I'm a sucker for album intros with instrumentals or a DJ doing some scratching at the beginning, so when Hi-Tek's album "Hi-Teknology" starts off it gets me so hyped with that neck snappin' beat then the scratching montage that Premier would do type stuff is how I always feel an intro to a rap album should start off.

3032108, Slum Village "Fantastic 1"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Sat Apr-24-21 08:41 PM
C'mon every version of "Fantastic" is just so infamous, like Baatin says "write up a scroll on da hoe when she don't act right"; the chorus to it should be like an OKP group anthem..."IT'S FANN TASS TIC!".

3032116, Van Halen "1984"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Mon Apr-26-21 10:37 AM
The intro to their album "1984" is also the name of the intro, with those spacey synth keys is so epic, it's basically sounds like the intro the song "Jump" but it's still a dope way to start off an album.

3032117, .... when I first heard Criminal Minded.... Damn where was I?

LOVE the entire album.
3032128, Def. Can stretch it to Dinninit, personally. Haha.
Posted by Brew, Mon Apr-26-21 08:57 PM
Such a dope run to start an album. And even more impressive considering the change in tone Stakes is High had relative to their first 3 albums, which were more playful.
