3030269, Bilal's Love for Sale
Posted by peterportela, Sun Feb-14-21 02:55 AM
Hi. This is my first post here. I'm a Wikipedian, editing there under the name isento. I was doing research for my article on Bilal's unreleased but widely bootlegged second album, Love for Sale, and came across an old post about it on this forum.

The album was special to me, finding the leak while I was in high school and recovering from surgeries for a health issue. For better or for worse, it helped shape the lovesick romantic in me. Under the quarantine last year, I came across the album again in my music library and committed myself to giving its story some justice in the form of a Wikipedia article.

Since the Bilal album leaked at some unspecified date in early 2006 (likely around February), this would make it a 15th anniversary of sorts. So I am just posting this to renew some awareness of a musical work that meant something to me and possibly a lot of other people out there.

One of the links at the bottom of the Wikipedia article is a YouTube user's playlist of the album's songs in the order of the original leak. I hope you all enjoy, and stay safe ✌️

Highlight of the album for me is the one-two punch of Lord Don't Let It (that climax!) and All For Love.

"According to Covert's 2006 report, another label can acquire publishing rights to the album in 2021"

This sounds quite promising, it'll be great if we were to finally get Bilal's intended version of the album.

Thank you, and yes, those two are great. "All for Love" has some of my favorite lyrics, particularly the line "I am a seeker in search of a dreamer..."

This is a live performance of White Turns to Grey, from his touring period for Love for Sale. As noted in the article, he acts a bit erratically on stage. But musically, it sounds more intense, exotic and lovelorn than the original studio recording. As a parallel, I'm reminded of Marvin Gaye's "Distant Lover" from the 1974 Live! album.

This is my favorite version of this song live. Those harmonies at the end were just amazing.
3030490, Folks were actually just discussing this album in GD a couple weeks ago

Great job. Funny enough, I've never heard this album despite being on this forum when it leaked. I've heard Airtight's Revenge, which was just OK to me. Time to give this a go.

Thank you. It was a labor of love to write. The article is actually being reviewed for promotion as a "featured article," so maybe it will appear on Wikipedia's main page some day. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the album.
