3029830, New Release Friday - 2021-01-22
Posted by thebigfunk, Fri Jan-22-21 10:49 AM
It's been a very quiet January overall, it seems, but today has at least two drops of interest:

Rhye - Home (actually a full album, which is nice, although a good number of these tracks were released over the last year -- at least four, I think?)

Kota the Friend - Lyrics to Go 2 - this looks similar to vol 1, 15 mins total over 10 tracks

What else is out there?

(Madlib/Fourtet is out next week, I think, so that's something to look forward to)

3029831, Th1rt3en & Pharaoahe Monch - A Magnificient Day for an Exorcism
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-22-21 10:55 AM
on this one right now, im digging it.

the kota was good, he worked with another producer but its still the same vibe as his stuff. if i didnt know it was another producer i would have thought it was just kota.

im not familiar with rhye, i guess things are slow enough that i can give it a try

totally missed that monch project - thanks for that

listening to the Kota now - the first volume grew on me a lot and I liked it more than his full-length last year in the end. so far this is really solid, too.

I like Rhye a lot but it's a mood for sure. Lush but understated/restrained R&B, if that makes sense... I feel like they have a major classic in them but are a bit too settled in their lane to find it...

3029835, Breeze Brewin album?

Hindsight...

He’s been teasing it on twitter but I didn’t beleive

Looks like it’s out and I’m HYPED
3029838, Really hoping this is great.

A lot of emcees in his class haven't been able to pull off the top-to-bottom quality solo project.
3029853, I just love to hear dude rap
Posted by Stadiq, Sat Jan-23-21 12:13 AM

Brewin has one of my favorite/most unique deliveries/flow

I was only able to get half way through today because of time but so far? meh.

the production is not good so far. very cheap sounding, which is unnecessary these days.

Isn't his son a producer?

So far, I've missed Herawin too **shrugs**

Like I said, I was only able to make it half way through...and I would enjoy hearing dude rap over anything....but so far I'm just underwhelmed by the production.

3029855, Wanna disagree with you, but...

Was hoping at least the Spinna beat would be top quality. But like the rest of the beats, somewhere between fine and forgettable.
3029837, I've been enjoying this comp of Japanese music
Posted by stylez dainty, Fri Jan-22-21 01:21 PM
I've been searching out stuff exactly like this for the past year or so, but somehow haven't heard any of these tracks. (Bandcamp doesn't have the full album but it's streaming everywhere else)

Totally different, but another new/recent comp was highlighted on Bandcamp's daily feature, Saturday Night: South African Disco Pop Hits 1981-1987

Looking forward to checking this out, too.

I love weird 80s reissues. Especially when its strange/experimental music that uses the comforting synthesizer sounds of my 80s childhoods but in a context that's more in line with my musical tastes now. Best of both worlds.
3029840, This "Silent Treatment" street mix popped up in my Release Radar

Is this leading to an whole re-release of DYWM?!!!??! or is this just a one-off?
3029842, good question

Last year would have actually been the 25th anniversary, I think... so I don't think it's a special occasion release. I'd love a deluxe release with some extras though

yeah it looks like every format will be released on March 12th.

i was used to seeing the digital being released first, then CD, then vinyl being last... usually a few months later.

3029866, This is a pretty good week for singles.

Talib Kweli & Diamond D put out the first song from their Gotham album.

This is: Far Out,Bar Out (Feat. A-F-R-O.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuecRdOyVmk

Also, Valerie June,Wale, the Silk City & Ellie Goulding song makes me miss parties, Robin Thicke got a dope one with Pharrell too.

My favorite song this week is from this rapper named Angel Haze called: Weight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOycRO6mabo

....I think Haze is one of the more underrated rappers going, tho that's probably because she hasn't put out much music in the last 5 years.
