Followed up TWO classics, to be sure.
But yea I loved it at the time but also think in hindsight it's understandable why he wanted to branch out a bit and try for a more subtle, positive vibe as opposed to the ultra-militant, political anger he espoused on the first two.
And I think it came w/great results. "Bop Gun" is an excellent single, and fitting for the time period it was released. "Really Doe" is a dope ass opener. "You Know How We Do It" is also a dope single and has such a cool summer vibe.
And then like you said he still sprinkled in some political commentary on songs like "Ghetto Bird" and a couple of others.
