The reception to that album and “the Firm Flop” really seemed to get to Dre.

IMO, it’s unfortunate that he abandoned becoming more “mature” in his content. It affected not just his own releases, but everything his label put out. He was even trying to have Rakim cursing and talking some bullshit, smh.

2001 was a banger, but that period that followed was my least favorite stretch of Dre’s career. All he would put his name on was some shock value “controversial” shit. He was like late 30s and into his 40s. It was corny and came off too calculated, especially after “Been There Done That” and all the interviews he was giving around 96-97.
