3027010, name one song you've had on repeat recently
Posted by thebigfunk, Mon Sep-21-20 12:14 PM
Inspired by the fact that I've listened to Zo!'s "Steal My Joy" *way* too many times over the last few days...

that whole album is really good but I think I could keep that song on repeat for a few hours and I'm not sure I'd get tired of it, lol.

What's the last song you let go for 4 or 5+ times in a row lately?

love the weird/unexpected modulation throughout and how sparse but rich it is -- their attention to detail is impeccable.

Hadn't heard his flow as Dilla-esque before but I totally see it. That second verse is especially good.

3027026, One of Gibbs best projects IMO
Posted by Oak27, Mon Sep-21-20 02:33 PM
Not sure why he named the EP with less songs Str8 Killa and the mixtape with a whole bunch of other tracks Str8 Killa No Filla and not the other way around.

National Anthem is one of my favorite songs of the 2010s, period. Personal OG and Rock Bottom are also top tier Gibbs tracks from that EP.

>Robbers - The 1975

I can't quite seem to "get" this band and I'm not sure why... this was cool though.

>Last Great American Dynasty - Taylor Swift
>Maria Tambien - Khraugbin

Both really great picks, especially from the repeat perspective -- when I first heard Last Great American Dynasty, I was running errands, started listening closer about half-way through the song, and immediately rewound to start at the beginning so I could listen closer. Lyrics are especially brilliant but also the melody, the low-key arrangement and production that still has a really good push and pulse... it almost lacks a big pay-off or resolution, too, so you kind of want to go back and listen again and again.

And Maria Tambien is just a straight jam. I've found a lot of SAULT's stuff to mix really well with Khruangbin ... just throw everything from both artists on a playlist and hit shuffle.

Oof, hard one to keep on repeat, emotionally --- but easily a top Meshell song in my book, from one of my absolute favorite of her albums. That switch-up toward the end as it shifts into the instrumental outro... ugh, perfection.

I have a soft spot for "Wasted Time" from Bitter... I've definitely had that on repeat many a time.

What can I say? I was in a mood lol. It really is a beautiful album. That ending is quite cathartic. Similar to the ending of Van Hunt's Daredevil, Baby for me.

i dont think its the best song of the year or anything but each time it comes on it gets my hyped lol

that beat and WSG on the hook just works so well with the verses.

i dont really put songs on repeat, either listening to full albums or shuffling playlists but this one seems to play a lot and i would probably come back to it more if i was the type to wear out songs.

Posted by lonesome_d, Tue Sep-29-20 10:08 AM
we got him one of those cheap suitcase turntables this summer and to my surprise he's really enjoyed it... started with The Beatles (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Let It Be), then the first two Byrds records, now he's on to Buffalo Springfield's debut and he really likes that first side (of the second pressing, with For What It's Worth).

Sticking with the alphabet for now because my first box of records is out in the room instead of in the cabinet or in the garage. not sure what I'll hit him with next...

I love this beat.

It just popped in my head the other day and I keep runnin it. It knocks in the whip.

very creative use of chops (I'm assuming) I keep tryna remake it with breakbeats just to see how it was possibly put together.

This beat goes dumb.
3027208, "Djeli" By Aquil
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Wed Sep-30-20 04:51 AM
For the past week this song has been on heavy rotation, this kat is from Philly and his flow & breath control is amazing, his voice kind of reminds me of Nas on this three song EP, but the title track "Djeli" he just spits a story/history lesson type joint.

https://Aquil.bandcamp.com/track/Djeli

The music is from the Black Milk & Nat Turner sessions, so of course the music is dope, believe me, once you hear this, you going to listen to it a few times like I had to when I first heard it on soundcloud.

3027691, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Situations (!)
Posted by Options, Fri Oct-16-20 07:46 PM
this joint is single-handedly rekindling my interest in rap/rappers.

a lot of emcees boast about having "styles," but how many actually have more than one? Freddie switches between four or five different flows with ease on this track alone and they are ALL dope. (and those BONE-esque harmonies... ugh.)

I'm floored by how dope this track is.

I haven't been paying any attention to rappers for a mintue, but DAMN, I need more of this.
