I don't agree with your stance but it's interesting Dre is mostly perceived as a musical genius for his sampling but maybe the reason he's so lauded is that it sounded *new* and fresh and innovative to us (music fans at the time). His genius was more that he packaged the music so well. He sold an image of bravodo and cool that was captivating.

Kind of how Steve Jobs was seen as the great innovator of his time but the Macintosh stole its OS from Microsoft and Xerox. And the iPhone's technology was (I believe) created by Microsoft many years earlier. But Jobs knew how to sell an image and an aura and that's why we remember him and not PARC (the division at Xerox who invented the user interface the Macintosh's was based on.).
