I was hoping it would be around the $125 to $150 range but freakin' $300 is waaaaayyyyy over what I'm willin' to pay for any album, if it was on vinyl yeah I can see a price tag of that sort but just for cds, naw that's alright, I'll wait till an used copy shows up.

Probably more than both the 1999 and Purple Rain sets combined.
I'm excited for it.

I was about to be like hells no, but once I saw the cd set is around $160, that seems fair, I'll have to save up for it though.

I also saw there was three different vinyl options, a 2LP colored version, a 4LP version, and a 13LP version, wow.

This is the one I'm probably most excited about.

As in I *might* pony up for the most expensive version...

Each subsequent set appears to be bigger than the previous; I feel like this one would cover a lot of ground given that it was awhile before the final direction was settled on (i.e. thinking of Dream Factory, Crystal Ball, Camille, etc.).

These are being released in order of relative popularity? Trying to think which one would reasonably be next. Parade???

...I really, really want a vinyl release of Dream Factory and the original Crystal Ball. Remastered, dig up the original artwork, official releases.

I have a feeling, though, that they're going to finish up at least the 80s deluxe editions first. Then maybe do some more thematic or album-ready boots. Then (eventually) move on to the 90s. This makes the most sense to me from a financial standpoint, where your average fan is probably more likely to grab a reissue of their favorite P record but isn't quite completist enough to be interested in an alternate mix/sequence for Under the Cherry Moon...

My only worry is that at some point they lose steam or decide not to invest as much effort. TBH, I'm guessing there's a lot of 90s-onward stuff that hasn't seen as much light - I'd hate for that to not get as much attention because labels decide there's not enough money or interest in it...

Amazon said it was coming next Wednesday. What a surprise!

Like I knew, but just seeing it laid out on Apple Music right now is overwhelming.

The sequencing is off for the unreleased songs thrown together basically. Whose has the dream job of choosing what song to put on these releases? I wanted that 1987 version of "If I Love You Tonight". I didn't get the jaw dropping reaction to this collection of songs. If you look on YouTube you can make a better deluxe version of your own. It's good to have though. But I think it was a rushed project.

So far my mind's not blown. Don't get me wrong it's good most of this I've heard. The things I didn't hear are good but most of them didn't give me that OMG feeling like the other releases. Mind you that the "Sign" era is my favorite version of Prince. I'll have to make a list of things they shoulda put on there.

i havent gotten mine yet, but, looking at the tracklist im JUST realizing that there only seems to be ONE version of my faves ("Crucial") when i know there are several different versions cuz i have them on unofficial thangs (the extra long version with killin guitar, the extra long version with horns-a-plenty etc etc.....

...not sure which version they included in this set though?

i say it everytime, but whats SO frustrating to me about these sets is that they ALWAYS seem to WASTE space including "EDIT" versions of FULL versions that are already on the set....WHY??? WHY put a 'clipped' version of a full song thats already in the set when you COULD use that space to put ALTERNATE versions of songs that actually show & reflect the creative exploration that was taking place? (like the formentioned MULTi versions of the gem Crucial! THAT would be WAYYY more interesting, intriguing & valuable to listeners than the 'edit' versions of the full length tracks)....i'd bet that no-one...and i mean NO ONE listens to the 'edit' versions, they skip right past em like i do, i can prettymuch guarantee that....

such a wasted opportunity....

but i still bought it, so what do they care.
well at least ive got all of the creative Alt versions on my 'unofficial' releases. but dang, sure woulda been nice to have official versions of em all....im not crazy, it really is a no-brainer, right?

I would like to see that list too, actually, but to you point, that eally is th most frustrating thing about all of these sets so far, it's like they are just padding them with unnecessary stuff just to run up the price.

and Crucial, wtf, we still haven't got a proper remaster with the saxophone, is it Leeds on it? We have the Crystal Ball guitar version and now this alternate lyrics which is cool to hear too but give us all of that.

The version we got has lyrics I've never head before but it ranks low on the list of Crucial versions out there.

I might be wrong on this, most of the song I was thinking about came out after and are songs he wrote for other people. Telepathy and 101 for example. We coulda had a few versions of Crucial, The good version of Sexual suicide not the crystal ball remake, Dream Factory woulda been nice I wonder if there other versions of that

yeah, that raw version of Sexual Suicide woulda been great to have wouldnt it?

my set just came in today, so i'll listen over the next week or two and see whats actually up in there. The packaging & presentation is high quality i'll say that, much bigger than i expected. (i guess thats what some of that high pricepoint went towards lol)

Not surprised. The curator was a head at Spotify so they probably did rush it just to get the money outlets going before Youtubers got all the goodies out. I really appreciate whoever's posting on youtube, it's like finding rare jewels.

Not disappointed. But there wasn't much new (new to me rather) that I liked. Did replay In A Large Room With No Light a few times though.

- really enjoyed the Ballad version w/ horns
- Didn't enjoy this version of 'Crucial' as much as what I heard before, but maybe it grows on me
- happy to see Adonis and Bathsheba
- this version of Power Fantastic....yes!

It retailed at $70 less than a year ago, but now goes for around $200 and up. This is one of those rare times where "limited edition" actually means something.

I’ll listen to those other tracks on Spotify. I wouldn’t dream of spending $300.....unless I thought I’d be able to sell it for significantly more later. Is that the aim for some here?

All that AND hearing a remastered version of the album is definitely worth the money spent.

I’d forgotten about the live shows - but personally those don’t interest me as much. Book is definitely intriguing. I could see someone who values all those things being willing to spend that money.

Personally I just wanted a physical copy of the regular album that sounds better, so that’s the route I went. Possibly will look into getting the book separately.

I've been wanting a long studio (loud & clear) version of "Soul Psychodelicide" even though it is some amazing live versions out there too, I'm just curious as to the timing and if it has something extra & funky solos they didn't perform on those live versions I've heard before?

Another song I'm curious to hear is the Lisa Coleman vocal version of "A Place In Heaven".

Also, I agree with someone here who said why put Edit versions on this box set, it's a waste of space, when it's other songs they could've put on there.

I've officially swore off buying anymore vinyl & cds this year cause I need to save to be paying bills and not struggling to pay them but I want this box set, just hope it's a store that's selling the cd version for a good price and not the regular retail price, I'm just going to have to get the vinyl version when I get rich or a better paying job.
