3024558, New Release Friday - 2020-05-15
Posted by thebigfunk, Fri May-15-20 08:43 AM
Time moves so strangely these days - it doesn't feel like a full week since last Friday, yet it also feels like a month or a year... some personal stuff + weather + nowhere to go has me lapsing into some serious COVID blues today. Not sure if this glut of new releases will help or hurt, lol.

What's everyone looking for? The big ones for me this week are:

Moses Sumney - Grae pt 2 - I loved part 1 but am hoping part 2 helps to round it out a bit, it felt like it was a bit unbalanced.

Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - The Mosaic of Transformation

But others are on the docket, too:

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Reunions (Isbell is spotty for me but when he's on, he's on - good performer too)

Hanni El Khatib - FLIGHT (dude is a bit of a crazy weirdo but really scratches a certain itch with his almost bedroom-ish unkempt approach to rock)

Thao & The Get Down Stay Down - Temple

And a few acts that are new to me but I'll probably check out:

Dijon - "How Do You Feel About Getting Married?"

Nick Hakim - WILL THIS MAKE ME GOOD

Unreal. Unreal. Unreal. Those Prince/TTD vibes that he can give are strong here in the best way.

Also, this bass and plucky guitar popping up on the second part of grae is killing me.

In the first half, in particular, it shows he has really progressed as an artist, but the whole thing is good - and "Bless Me" is one of my favorite tracks on it
3024569, Conway the Machine & Big Ghost LTD - No One Mourns The Wicked

For those not familiar, producer Big Ghost LTD = the dude who used to write those BIG GHOST ALL CAPS ALBUM REVIEWS

...wouldn't be mad at a Hamilton X 9th project really.
3024632, Anyone check out Jamo Gang Ras Kass/El Gant/J57?

Album bangs....it's cool that we getting regular Ras Kass records these days.

J57's beats are solid, and El Gant keeps up lyrically.

This is "Runyon Canyon" (Feat. Sid of SlipKnot)

Also, there's a Premier beat on the album too.

...tho it's kinda weird when there's a producer in the group to have a different producer on the single. That said, it's a Preemo beat...so I guess you got run with it right?
