3023123, Stove God Cooks - Reasonable Drought
Posted by Mgmt, Sun Mar-29-20 10:17 PM
This deserved its own post. I only saw rhymesandammo mention this album.

Fully produced by Roc Marciano. This is what Ive actually wanted from Roc Marci his whole career (he about achieved it with Pimpire).

These beats are unbelievable. Play this now.

Didn’t care for his features much on Marcielago but this album
shows the full repertoire as an emcee.
Interesting delivery and style...
Especially when consider what type of beats he’s utilizing that delivery over.

Very good album.

for someone who rapped about coke for 90% of the project, he had some funny/clever ways to broach the topic.

off two listens, i like it. it's like griselda with melodic hooks. "crosses" & "john $tarks" are my favorites.

and I say this with realization that i'm probably not the demographic (i'm 45)

but if you're gonna make drugs the sole focus of your raps, you gotta be as creative with it as Pusha, or it's gonna get old quick.

I never bought into that drug talk, but I LOVED Clipse and Pusha specifically.

Same way I never bought into the gun talk, but Mobb Deep did it so beautifully, you couldn't help but get on board.

This Cooks project sounds cool as fuck, but I just feel he's lacking that *chefs kiss* that'll make me stick with it longer than a couple of listens.

Again, that might just be me.
3023269, his 'rap tone' :-/
Posted by infin8, Thu Apr-02-20 12:52 PM
he's rapping so hard it's like 'PLEASE BELIEVE ME' on some of these, and by rapping hard, I mean the tone/pitch of his voice. I think he woulda benefitted from a more laid back style/approach.

That being said I still f--k with it. If you check his IG page there's a couple posts of him getting off and THAT made me anticipate his release pause.

I'm fuckin with it though.

I openly enjoy this album. Roc laced the hell out of him and he tried like hell to not Group Home it. It’s a good time. There’s a few beats that I’m shocked Roc gave away.

3023507, Which ones?

Like half of it.

Rolls Royce Break Lights. Break the Pyrex. Burt & State. Lava Lamp. Gloria Blemente.

Even Balenciaga Stamp.

Break the Pyrex and Burt & State especially tho.

Cooks went to town on Burt & State for sure. The Celine and Missy lines still make me happy. Ridiculous but they got the point across. I wanted a Conway laugh drop for both of those.
3023466, I'd love this as an instrumental disc

It appears the vinyl for this sold out. Hope some folks here pre-ordered it when it was available.
