To me, the gangster/death fantasy isn't far off from a movie. It's a relative, appreciable but no less false device.
It's a little different to me when the rhymes are (potentially) harmful to the listener in more actionable ways.
I loved when 2009-2012 rap culture was trending towards the brands of weed those rappers smoked. I'm not at all opposed to rapping as a literary/culinary activity. I just want the recipe to build, not destroy.
