I love hip hop concept albums.
This is honestly picking up where "To Pimp A Butterfly" left off.
Same lush musicianship, just a different story.
I'm not ready to label this the album of the year, but MAN...
also...(ahem)...CHICAGO STAND UP!

3020835, 2 listens in, my only critiques...

- Didn't like that Phonte didn't have a verse on Back in the Day (he's on the chorus).
- The 3rd Act wasn't my thing (Nappy Hair, Homecoming)

Other than that, it's a very cohesive album.
Even the skits work which is rare in hip hop.
But yeah, I kept thinking of "Butterfly" while listening to this.
Maybe it was the heavy saxophone work that was used throughout.
3020870, this is very good

I agree with all of this. But its a very, very dope record.

I haven't really checked for dude since Save Our Souls, which was also very good.

Hyped to listen, ALOT of quality music this year, trying to keep up is a full time gig...
3022508, Damn, I was missing out on this guy!

I’d heard/read the name, heard him some on the first Jamla is the Squad, but never really paid attention.

Been on a Khrysis kick lately, which led to me finding “Between Heaven and Hell” and “Prey for the Poor”.

He is top tier rapper IMO. There’s not too many rappers who can keep my attention for a full album anymore, but I’m all in on him.

And this album is something else too! Glad I caught on.
3022509, Great...great album

3022527, I can’t believe how good of an MC this guy is

He reminds me a little bit of early Lupe - when he was more relatable.
3025550, need to listen to his discography a lot more

I enjoyed some of the tale of two cities way back but haven't listened for years, but it seems like his proper albums from more recent years are on another level
