3017442, Does Wyclef have the most slept on diss track ever? “What’s Clef?”

I have that one ranked higher than Ether and Hit Em Up both are overrated imo. It’s definitely top ten he killed LL. That song got no shine.

Damn, forgot this one...imo, this and the Canibus joint, were much better than what LL did...
3017446, Actually yes. I've said this for many years.

3017463, Fuck Clef. But I agree that "Hit 'Em Up" is the most overrated ...
Posted by Brew, Sun Jul-07-19 08:44 PM
... diss song in music history. That song really kinda sucks if we're being honest.
3017465, It’s level of anger and directness was something else
Posted by DJR, Sun Jul-07-19 10:37 PM
So it made for a “must listen” status at the time. But after that...yeah. It’s not all that “good”. Most diss records have a short shelf life to me though.
3017464, It's good, but I'm going with Black Sheep's "Here's Anotha Asshole"
Posted by mrhood75, Sun Jul-07-19 09:56 PM
Hammer may be low hanging fruit, but they went at him in ways only Bay Area cats would get.
3017466, He had some lines....I didn’t believe him though
Posted by DJR, Sun Jul-07-19 10:39 PM
You just know he was an LL fan.
3017490, Maybe most slept on
Posted by fontgangsta, Sun Aug-04-19 06:03 PM
Bitch In Yoo is the gold standard of dis tracks IMO
3017495, BEAT ME TO IT.
Posted by Brew, Sun Aug-04-19 10:17 PM
>Bitch In Yoo is the gold standard of dis tracks IMO

It's #1 in my book too. For a lot of reasons. Lyrically it's top notch, of course. But the fact that he went after someone who, at that time, was still considered top 5 dead or alive and Comm was a relative unknown. Legendary. Perfect beat for the moment too.
3017554, To Me "The Bitch In Yoo" Is Like A Top 5 Diss Track

Common went at Ice Cube so hard, he was breaking down his career and all his movie roles to even dissing WC & Mack 10 (which I think WC didn't deserve it at all, cause I like WC more than Cube) but he made it personal, not about a coast or a place, and even got Pete Rock to give him heat to spit on.

Of course 90's listeners heard this song before but to me the only reason why most younger people haven't heard it cause it wasn't on any of Common's albums, just on a single off a Relativity Records compilation "Relativity Urban Assault"; only recently in 2010 did they put it on a compilation called "Go! Common Classics" and for that reason maybe that's why it maybe considered slept on.

3017556, "And the Circle Madd, ain't got no choice but to fight / ...
Posted by Brew, Tue Aug-06-19 08:42 AM
... ain't none a' y'all mothafuckas got a chance on the mic"

That line always gets me - he said it with such conviction lol.

Think he went after WC because they threatened to fight him or something.
3017636, Bitch in you is definitely top three
Posted by 81 DUN, Thu Aug-08-19 12:13 PM
3017690, It proved to be a major turning point in Common's career
Posted by Shaun Tha Don, Sat Aug-10-19 04:54 PM
as his stature, sales and his skills increased.
3017736, YEP!

3017494, I know folks love to hate Eminem. Myself included. And ...

I know Benzino is low hanging fruit (to steal a cliche from someone else in this post re: MC Hammer) but "The Sauce" and "Nail in the Coffin" are both top 5 IMO. Em shredded those beats.
3017666, RE: I know folks love to hate Eminem. Myself included. And ...
Posted by spidey, Fri Aug-09-19 11:29 AM
True, but benzino was an easy target...Evidence brought it to Em's throat, a real MC response...
3017669, Yea Search 4 Bobby Fisher or whatever ? That shit was fire.
Posted by Brew, Fri Aug-09-19 11:54 AM
I always forget about that one, which is weird considering I used to listen to it all the time back when it came out.

But yea Ev was crazy on that track. Great diss record.
3017674, the canibus one is pretty great too
Posted by makaveli, Fri Aug-09-19 04:27 PM
3017521, Meh --- track is corny
Posted by , Mon Aug-05-19 10:10 AM
It's hard take this track seriously. Clef just calling LL a non - legend the entire time.

ok. ROLL EYES

Clef's lyrics are mediocre at best. And saying this is in anyway a better "diss track" than Hit'em up is crazy talk.

Pac literally starts the track with ... that's why I F*cked your b*tch... and .... F*ck your b*tch and the click you claim....

He basically says F*ck You out the gate ... While Hit'em is nothing less than egregious...

Does it get harder than that? No... it does not.

werd.
3017633, No Vaseline still goes pretty hard in 2019.

3017634, Yea this is near the top of my list too.

3017639, How about Nas - Stillmatic Freestyle?
Posted by DJR, Thu Aug-08-19 01:06 PM
Ether gets all the attention, but Nas went hard on Stillmatic Freestyle.
3017640, Yea I liked the Stillmatic Freestyle a lot.
Posted by Brew, Thu Aug-08-19 01:55 PM
Ether is Ether for a million reasons but I always liked his flow on H to the Omo better.
3017641, Yeah, he was spitting hard and sounding smooth doing it
Posted by DJR, Thu Aug-08-19 02:59 PM
To me, that was the best diss song from either side in their whole battle.
3017691, Is he H to the izzo/M to the izzo?/
Posted by Shaun Tha Don, Sat Aug-10-19 05:00 PM
For shizzo, you phony/The rapping version of Sisqo.

Yeah! I forgot about the freestyle as soon as Ether dropped. But man that line stood out!
3017696, and right before that....
Posted by DJR, Sat Aug-10-19 09:11 PM
I rule you, before you used to rap like the Fu-Schnickens/Nas designed your Blueprint, who you kidding?

Any of those “jAy-Z uSeD fAcTs N nAS jUsT uSeD iNsUltS” people need only reference that to realize how wrong they are.

That “Rip the Freeway, shoot through Memphis with Money Bags/Stop in Philly, order cheese steaks and eat Beans fast” part was slick too.
3017701, LMAO. That's another one.

Meant to. So brilliant.
3017763, Un was your first court case/you had no priors

Slapped up The Roc in one quick freestyle. Honestly liked this better than Ether
3017659, nas lost

3017681, Eminem going at Mariah was hard
Posted by FunkyBoss, Fri Aug-09-19 07:32 PM
I know he went at easy targets in his career but I felt bad for Mariah listening to that
3017688, This subject line made me laugh
Posted by DJR, Sat Aug-10-19 09:20 AM
And I know you qualified it and acknowledged “easy targets”, but....

I don’t know. I thought Eminem looked like a clown there, regardless of what his lyrics were.
3017706, Yea that was the last time I liked him lol.
Posted by Brew, Sun Aug-11-19 07:34 PM
>I know he went at easy targets in his career but I felt bad

Pretty much the last time he sounded like his old self IIRC.
3017764, Bagpipes from Baghdad or the one that didn't come out?
Posted by makaveli, Tue Aug-13-19 04:03 PM
they are both pretty funny. now i'm thinking of a third, there's the one from the Eminem show and the one where he uses the voicemail.
3017774, "Warning" - the one with the voicemail.
Posted by Brew, Tue Aug-13-19 09:06 PM
At least that's what I thought he was referring to. Joint is funny as hell, and supremely fucked up lol
3017857, yeah that one
Posted by FunkyBoss, Fri Aug-16-19 09:12 PM
Like where's the rocky trainer meme "throw the damn towel", when you need it.
3017737, "Search 4 Bobby Fisher" is more underrated + better than this.
