Not sure which former ex-OKPer I follow on twitter mentioned the band SAULT but they threw their name out with AOTY so I had to give them a spin. Phenomenal Album. I started looking online to figure out who they are and I got nothing from the googles. No picture of the band members. No bio. Only thing I got was some Scandanivan Metal band which I am pretty sure is a differnt band by the same name.

Anyway, I am not sure how you even classify them genre-wise but this stuff you have got to hear.

Maybe not. She wiped her instagram, which artists normally do leading into an album roll-out.

But the Spotify bio basically confirms it to be her:

but I checked out a new album from someone named Maria Usbeck, the album is called Envejeciendo ... and happened to put it on after listening to the Sault record for the nth time... although the overall sound is very different, the general vibe is a bit similar and it has some similar characteristics -- really sparse, percussion-centered arrangements and simply delivered vocals. Only listened to the Usbeck record twice so far but I'm enjoying it.

Won't go as far as to say "If you like Sault you'll like this," but the two albums make an interesting pair and it might be worth checking out. The Usbeck record is on Apple Music, I'm assuming it's available on the other streaming venues as well.

Love the vibe.
Feels like an extension of the 5 sessions but with some new flavors and collaborators mixed in.

I wish I knew their backstory. I'm interested to know the timing of creating 5 vs. creating 7.

AFAIK he is not really 'in with' the neo-soul/jazz scene over here (yussef dayes, alfa mist, jordan rakei, tom misch, etc.)...

him, cleo, little simz etc. are forging their own London scene, which is extremely dope.

on several tracks ....hmmmmmmmmmm

Listened to a couple tracks from 5 and tried to listen to the newest project and...I don't like the production or their voices
