3015515, Does he still rap like Nas?
Posted by DJR, Tue Apr-23-19 06:21 PM
I’ve read good things about this. Deciding if it’s worth checking out or not. I’m having trouble getting past my intro to him a few years ago.
3015518, He’d stopped sounding like Nas pretty early on.
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Apr-23-19 10:10 PM
Certainly by the time “Packs” dropped.
3015519, Ehhh you sure? I really want to like dude, but its unbearable.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Tue Apr-23-19 10:27 PM
>Certainly by the time “Packs” dropped.

Its really like nothing else I ever heard

I mean, Bronson's Ghostface biting is pretty
bad too but even I've enjoyed a Bronson record
or two

This Droog shit is completely unlistenable

And LOL @ "that's his voice"

No, stop it

3015566, Nah he still impersonates. And now he’s leeching
Posted by Stadiq, Thu Apr-25-19 09:33 PM

Off Mach and his buzz.

This shit used to be unacceptable.

Either way, it’s corny and the opposite of art.

And even if dude has pumped the breaks a little, he
got his buzz by dropping a tape where he literally
wanted people to think it was nas.

How are people ok with that?

If it wasnt for that, he’d be SoundCloud status.

Nah. Vulture status. And corny.

3015567, you’re right....I’m not listening
Posted by DJR, Thu Apr-25-19 10:02 PM
3015623, flows and styles been stolen since the beginning...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Mon Apr-29-19 07:53 AM
..what about the sleepy wu tang sounding beats? we let those slide ...i mean, theres some record execs who didnt sign Nas because they thought he sounded too much like Rakim ..silly right?

That said, Dude would sound better on some more up tempo shit..

3015627, Totally.
Posted by Brew, Mon Apr-29-19 11:17 AM
He was the opener @ the PRhyme show I saw in Boston a few years back and his Nas biting floored me. He also just seemed super corny in general, beyond the Nas thing - like he was trying too hard to act swaggy or whatever. Everything about him and his entire act comes off as forced and unnatural. So even if he can rhyme I just can't/don't enjoy his music.

Plus his name is stupid.
3015656, Dude is dope. Y'all caught up in personality
Posted by stone_phalanges, Tue Apr-30-19 11:20 AM
The music this dude is making is tight. Even if you wanted to say his voice sounds like Nas, (it doesn't IMO since his last few releases) his music sounds NOTHING like Nas. Beats, subject matter, the artists he works with, structurally, I could go on.

This dude has been judged on everything other than the music that he makes since his intro (I also think it was sort of corny and that he wanted people to think he was Nas for a while). Let's move on.

If you genuinely don't like his raps (lol cuz everyone will give some detailed critique now like they haven't been screamin "he sound like nas!!!" exclusively for years) don't listen, but people are startin' to sound like strait haters- no reason for disliking other than personal crap, about a dude you don't know. "he's corny!", "That's not his real voice!", "He's a vulture!".

All I want to hear about is the beats or the rhymes. This is music people, not a popularity contest.
3015707, Nah its none of that. Its ony that he sounds EXACTLY like Nas.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed May-01-19 08:10 PM

Don't care about any of that extra shit.

Dude just sounds exactly like Nas. I've heard every
argument. I understand his "lane is different."

But he sounds exactly like Nas.

Like I said: I *want* to like this guy.
3015756, Except he doesn't
Posted by stone_phalanges, Fri May-03-19 08:39 AM
To each his own though. Maybe our ears just work differently.
3015710, Thing is....I gotta CARE
Posted by DJR, Wed May-01-19 08:25 PM
to me he’s the kid who seemingly tried to make people think he was Nas. So why would I care about “him”?

There’s too much music out there and I don’t got time for technically solid rappers who I don’t give a fuck about. I’m too old for that.

So that’s why I asked. Is he still a Nas biter? That’s all I know and remember him for. As wack as that is, I’m willing to move on if he is(because I trust that he may be legit talented if he could almost pull that Nas biter shit off). He’s gotta be able to move on beyond that and make people care about HIM though, IMO.
3015724, VERY well said. My GOODNESS, how on point.

Posted by A Love Supreme, Fri Apr-26-19 10:23 AM
if you're curious, take some of your precious time (that you seem to have, since you took the time to write in this post) and give it a listen. if you don't you don't. doesnt matter really. peace
3016318, No, why don’t you just tell me. Thanks.

3015769, Does Nas still rap like Nas?
Posted by infin8, Fri May-03-19 02:02 PM
LOL

to each his own tho.
3015770, everyone like what they like; but the Nas thing is super played & old
Posted by sweeneykovar, Fri May-03-19 02:21 PM
especially throughout the years since his eponymous debut, it's harder and harder to make that comparison IMO. his style, his topics, his references, all have more in common with someone like Sean P or DOOM than Nas. again, not arguing what you should like, but the comparison has little basis in 2019.
3016099, It’s all I know him for, that’s why I was asking
Posted by DJR, Tue May-07-19 03:55 PM
Appreciate the info though. I’ll try to give it a listen and see what I think.

3015626, This is really dope. I officially end my campaign of hatred
Posted by stone_phalanges, Mon Apr-29-19 10:53 AM
Personal hatred mind you. I never discouraged anyone else from listening, but I just couldn't indulge in this dude.

He has officially won me over though. This project is very well executed all around.
3015638, Quality release; ''Chasing Ghosts'' is my favorite

I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!

3015675, this is a good record
Posted by Small Pro, Wed May-01-19 08:41 AM
gives off hella DOOM-meets-roc marci vibes, dope guest appearances and y.o.d. is rapping very well here

my favorite thing about it though is that he dropped it on the 25th anniversary of illmatic...a troll after my own heart
3015691, dude might be a history-maker

Just for name-checking Kris Kristofferson & VACLAV HAVEL

WITHIN 3 LINES OF EACH OTHER:

Lack of fuck to give, still try to be to productive
Droog ain't a loud-mouth or a gossiper (no)
Just lay low and you'll prosper
Existential dread ain't nothing
But a Rasta philosopher, listen (what?)
Got more hits than Kris Kristofferson
So lames better have em offers out when they Hoffa-ing
Get those checks out like Vaclav Havel
Same punks to front a gun and come back groveling
3016139, YO!!!!

He is mad deep with the lyrics....

"Even America's Dad had the Bar B Que Sauce"

-To break that line down you had watched the cosby show on the regular...
3015763, yeah this is dope asf.
Posted by dula dibiasi, Fri May-03-19 10:33 AM
definitely will end up on my year-end list. dude's strung together a couple really strong projects in a row now.
3016196, Wanna know what? I gave this a try and enjoy it.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon May-13-19 06:58 PM

I'm an open minded dude, man

I really am

That said: DO NOT TRY TO TELL ME this dude just *happens* to
sound that way.

Seriously, GTFOH

But he is definitely talented

3016224, I don’t get the Nas comp after the album.
Posted by High Society, Tue May-14-19 07:14 PM
Imo, he’s a different emcee since then. He’s much more quirky.
He’s more MF DOOM than Nas.
3016273, So he moved from biting one guy to another? Jesus Christ

3016412, I don’t think he’s biting.
Posted by High Society, Wed May-22-19 05:46 PM
He’s got influences.
Shit - he’s one of the emcees in today’s climate making good music
for us heads that still want stuff that respects, builds off of, and tips cap to the 90s
and the music we and he grew up loving.
3016415, I gave the first few tracks a try the other day and I'm sorry but ...
Posted by Brew, Wed May-22-19 08:29 PM
... he can rap for sure, but musically this does *not* sound at all like the stuff we love from the 90s IMO. I could not get into it.

i'd say more like a blend of Nas, Roc Mari & DOOM..
3016411, I can rock with this, sure.
Posted by High Society, Wed May-22-19 05:42 PM
He has his influences, like all emcees.
