whether its singles/b-sides that didnt make it into the album or soundtrack songs or songs they were featured in.

what are some of the best songs you may have missed from an artist if you only listened to their albums?

3013772, It was on some bootleg called The Audition.

Before she got signed by Big Boi or Bad Boy.
3013964, RE: It was on some bootleg called The Audition.
Posted by BlakStaar, Thu Feb-14-19 02:32 PM
I always thought The Audition was an official indie release that she put out. I don't think it's a bootleg and/or a compilation of her early work.

I know Wiki is not always the best source of information but here's what it says about The Audition:
"The Audition is a demo album by American singer and songwriter Janelle Monáe, self-released and self-financed in 2003. Some versions of the album were later entitled Metropolis: Point Zero."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Audition_(album)

I was in college in the AUC during her latter of early years, pre-Bad Boy. My first concert in ATL was seeing Janelle, The Jaspects and Bilal. Right across the street at Morehouse's King's Chapel. She put on a damn good show although attendance was embarrassingly sparse. I remember being so mad that I didn't know about The Audition until right after I graduated. I figured I could have purchased a copy more easily in 2006. I just have the .mp3 I downloaded from the web. I would have gladly purchased it. I wish she'd give this a more formal release. Her newer/later fans would appreciate it.
3013674, Robin Thicke- "Another Life"

.
3013704, A couple more from Robin Thicke
Posted by Marbles, Wed Feb-06-19 03:03 PM

There were a bunch of songs that got leaked just before the "Evolution of Robin Thicke" dropped (2006 maybe?). And I don't think most of them made the final cut.

I think some of his best stuff was among those songs.

"U Center Me"
"Superman"
"I'm Not Loving You"
"Cocaine"

Recently though, I've noticed that Spotify has included a "Fan Version" of the album that includes some of these songs.

Jhene Aiko - Wrap Me Up
Beyonce - Bow Down/I Been On ("Flawless" is cool, but "I Been On" was hoard)
Big Boi - Lookin 4 Ya (with the extra 3000 verse), Royal Flush
DJ Quik - G Shit
Lil' Wayne - I Feel Like Dying
3013681, "I know, I know, I know, I said two too many Tony's"
Posted by Af-1, Wed Feb-06-19 03:48 AM
What an awesome verse!
3013735, the big boi and dj quik songs were cool
Posted by mista k5, Thu Feb-07-19 01:08 PM
liked the big boi more. havent checked out the rest.

maybe i should had specified official releases.

theres definitely some great songs or even better versions of official releases that were just demos or werent officially released though.

3013703, Raphael Saadiq's "Ask Of You"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Wed Feb-06-19 02:16 PM
This should've been on one of the Tony Toni Tone albums or Raphael should've dropped a solo album with this song on it right after the "Higher Learning" soundtrack came out, this song got more play than anything on that soundtrack if you ask me.

Classic cut...
3013706, Kraftwerk "Tour De France"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Wed Feb-06-19 03:16 PM
I'm not sure why this group fought so hard to not put the album "Techno Pop" and why it didn't show up on the "Electric Cafe" album either but they would've sold millions, again; the single was selling for almost three years after it's first initial release date with pressings for almost every format and in every country that sold singles; even a Canadian artist copied the song cause it was so popular, remember 10 Speed?

3013707, O.C. feat. U-Nast "Your Life"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Wed Feb-06-19 03:23 PM
This was the last song off the "Soul In The Hole" soundtrack, this song should've been the last song on O.C.'s "Jewelz" album, it would've been a proper ending to that album, it fits so well tacked on to the end of that album instead of the soundtrack.

3013910, Wrong...twice

What I Represent is OCs best song not on his albums

And while I agree that Your Life would’ve been dope on Jewelz, you cannot not end that album with the title track.

In my opinion, I would’ve either placed it at track 8 to end the first side.
3013973, I agree with all of these points.

This was the last song they did together before the break-up, back in the late 90's.

It was on the "Searching Remix" promo 12" inch single released only in Japan, I think Elektra Records was going to release this as the third 12" single from the "Main Ingredient" album but when both were having issues I guess the label just decided to not even release it officially; in the US it was just the regular version promo 12", but in Japan EastWest (WEA) went as far as putting the remix to "Searching" and an unreleased song "We Specialize" as a b-side cut which became & still is a sought after 12".

I thought "We Specialize" would've been on the "Rare Tracks" EP that came out in Japan as well (which I bought thinking it would be on there but I ordered it without seeing a tracklisting) but they just put "Take You There Remix, Lots Of Lovin' Remix, I Got A Love Remix, Get On The Mic Remix, It's Not A Game, Mecca & The Soul Brother Remix (which was on the cassette of M&TSB), Straighten It Out Remix (was also on the cassette of M&TSB), Creator original EP version, T.R.O.Y. Vibes Remix, & Searching Remix.

I'm still surprised it didn't include "One In A Million" from Poetic Justice soundtrack, "What's Next On The Menu" from Who's The Man soundtrack, and "Death Becomes You" from the Menace II Society soundtrack; oh well.

I'm glad they got back together, hopefully they will make a new entire album together other than doing one song here & there.
