3013448, Was Killer Mike the worst member of dungeon family?
Posted by falafel stand pimpin, Sat Jan-26-19 03:15 PM
It's crazy seeing all his success now... I thought he ranked toward the bottom in the DF lineup. Maybe he was better than slim Calhoun or backbone but that's about it. What say you?
3013449, maybe not technically the worst but i liked his music the least.
Posted by Reeq, Sat Jan-26-19 04:59 PM
hes benefited a lot from the weaker field of competition that currently exists.
3013450, No.

Not at all.
3013451, I Always Felt Like The Group "Parental Advisory" Wasn't That Good
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Sat Jan-26-19 05:33 PM
I never thought of Killer Mike as a weak link in that collective, but I also was never big on Outkast either, and I never cared for Cee-Lo Green either (his voice was always annoying as hell back then), also there was another kat on the album named C-Bone who I thought was weak too.

Many people forget about Parental Advisory (Big Reese, K-Axe, & Mello) being apart of the Dungeon Family, I never heard their first album but I did hear their second one and it wasn't good to me at all, a few southern funky beats but it was very bland.

Anyway, I've always wondered why another ATL rapper who was close to the Dungeon Family named Jawz Of Life wasn't an official member, I end up getting his cd "First Breath" and thought it was dope (even featured Witchdoctor & T-Mo on it); after the album came out I didn't hear from him until this year when I found he had an bandcamp page https://music.jawzoflife.com

3013454, PA is actually really good.
Posted by JFrost1117, Sat Jan-26-19 07:19 PM
Clearly, you would need to be into that kinda music. Their first album sounds like...what you think 1992 sounds like. It's crazy to think ONP went from that to Southernplayalistic.
3013489, J.O.L. is my dude!
Posted by tully_blanchard, Mon Jan-28-19 01:24 PM
My homeboy used to work with him, and I used to play his music when I had an online radio show.

I got some stuff he put out before the First Breath album...now I wanna go dig that stuff up

3013452, There's 2 generations of Dungeon Family
Posted by phemom, Sat Jan-26-19 06:39 PM
....of which you can hear on the last song of the Dungeon Family album that Mike is 2nd gen, but whatever.....Mike is by far the best of that bunch (tho I always liked Slimm Calhoun)

...even still,I might get some hate for this, but Mike is better than T-Mo or Khujo ever were.
3013500, I'm not mad at that.

3013551, T Mo and Khujo are highly underrated
Posted by spirit, Thu Jan-31-19 03:32 AM
Mic presence and voice are underrated skills in emceeing. Khujo particularly is a master of mic presence. His voice is also amazingly distinctive. Mike is a better songwriter than both, but T Mo and Khujo also have very inventive ways of phrasing (another overlooked lyrical ability...how they wrote their Cell Therapy verses differs from how anyone else would have wrote those lines on the same subject). I always felt like people were too hard on these two. Cee Lo was so talented that people acted like T and K weren’t bringing significant creativity to the table as well (and I prefer Cee Lo in GM to Solo).

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

3013563, ^^^ This is a good breakdown of what T-Mo & Khujo brought to the table
Posted by Marbles, Thu Jan-31-19 03:54 PM

Khujo was always my favorite Goodie member.

The way he sets of "Guess Who" couldn't be matched by anyone.
3013598, KHUJO??!!?
Posted by moonsatellite, Sat Feb-02-19 10:11 AM
Yikes!
3013727, Khujo's verse from 'Kast's "Mainstream" body all of Mike's bars
Posted by Castro, Thu Feb-07-19 12:48 PM
Khujo got classic verses. Mike is nice and he's polished....but he ain't seeing Khujo.
3013453, Lol, not hardly.
Posted by JFrost1117, Sat Jan-26-19 07:15 PM
Take my Killer Mike/OutKast stanship with a grain of salt.

I think his original stall-out was due to people wanting something OutKast related to have OutKast on every song. Pretty much when people said they were DF fans and reviewed every non-Kast album like "It's a good album, even though Andre 3000 doesn't show up anywhere."

He did well by aligning with getting to release music through there, to a more open-minded crowd that may not have, or still may not know shit about his connection to OutKast. They probably think/thought "Oh, this is a dope rapper they say is from Atlanta, and I can understand what he's saying." El-P probably got him more rappity-rap fans that probably wouldn't give southern rap a chance, even if it was OutKast.

T-Mo was and still is the worst out of any of the "Generations" of the DF. That's including Future (went by Meathead back then).
3013456, RE: Lol, not hardly.

In the context of the group T-Mo was great. Tell me something wack he laid down on the first two albums (anything after that don't matter)

3013465, T-Mo has some memorable ass verses lol
Posted by Anonymous, Sun Jan-27-19 07:11 PM
He set some of those joints off lovely!

Thought Process
Still Standing (song)

“None of my homies carried guns all I had was a stick!”

And his verse on Mainstream is the shit!
3013481, I agree with this totally

>In the context of the group T-Mo was great. Tell me something
>wack he laid down on the first two albums (anything after that
>don't matter)

as long as his verse is being followed by or is preceded by one of the DF rappers T-Mo is excellent because his verses fill a space, and usually in the context of the song fits. outside of Goodie Mob T-Mo was type wack to me.

3013538, Decisions was a dope ass song

3013488, T-Mo was my least favorite on the "Soul Food" album
Posted by Marbles, Mon Jan-28-19 12:44 PM

I'm not saying he was wack but out of the 4, he was last on my list.

But on "Still Standing," he made huge strides. I thought that he made a noticeable jump between the 2 albums.
3013463, Maybe in an alternate universe

3013464, I’m not a big Killer Mike fan but not at all...

I will say that Witchdoctor has the most slept on album from the entire crew.

3013482, Bruh that album so damn dope!
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Mon Jan-28-19 07:27 AM
3013487, Yeah, that Witchdoctor album was so underrated. n/m
Posted by Marbles, Mon Jan-28-19 12:42 PM
3013494, At least we can say it was never slept on here.
Posted by micMajestic, Mon Jan-28-19 02:03 PM
>I will say that Witchdoctor has the most slept on album from

There was definitely some magic there, but I understand he was a tough act to promote to the general public.
3013501, Yes.

I found everyone else on the roster intriguing on some level.

Had some dope guest features with Goodie MoB. Joint on the Set It Off soundtrack and on their Still Standing LP.
3013562, Speaking of, he's on one of the new Big Boi songs dropping 2moro
Posted by phemom, Thu Jan-31-19 01:18 PM
- Return of The Dope Boi (Feat. Killer Mike & Backbone)
- Doin' It (Feat. Sleepy Brown)

Listen to both: http://hiphopgame.ihiphop.com/2019/01/31/big-boi-drops-off-two-new-singles/

Hopefully this means that we'll get the other half of the Big Boi album that was cut to make Boomiverse a single disc. There's a track with Janelle Monae that I wanna hear badly.
3013520, hell nah

3013715, So this DF reunion tour....Atlanta 4/20
Posted by CherNic, Wed Feb-06-19 07:52 PM
What’s the worst that could happen?
3013720, I'm not sure it'll top the reunion from ONE Musicfest a few years ago.
Posted by JFrost1117, Thu Feb-07-19 08:56 AM
Where it was EVERYBODY. I'm definitely going, but quelling expectations for Dre to show up. I just don't wanna set myself up for disappointment months in advance.

There's been a lot of "reunion" concerts here in the past few months, so I don't want this one to feel like an afterthought.
3013852, It might not. But it’s DF, so I’m there
Posted by CherNic, Sun Feb-10-19 07:22 PM
Was there for the first Goodie reunion show in 09. Kast in 14. DF in 16. Hell I even went to this random ass event at Buckhead Theatre that ended up being a Sleepy Brown showcase. His dad was there on sax. They performed EMBRACE from the Society of Soul album - Cee Lo hopped on bgv...it was soooo random
3013854, Yeah, I couldn't make the Buckhead Theater show.
Posted by JFrost1117, Sun Feb-10-19 09:35 PM
It did seem hella random, lol.

I bullshitted and missed "At Last", too, but I don't like to think about that. Easily the worst year of my life.
3013853, It might not. But it’s DF, so I’m there
