In the past six months he has played some real dope shit straight from his SP1200 that had me hyped, I remember even saying a few times on his timeline that he needs to put out another instrumental album on Redefintion Records with those beats he was showcasing.

Now it's in the works, glad he's still motivated to bless us with more unreleased treats.

All we need now is for him & C.L. to do another album together.

April 26. I’ve seen available for preorder on Amazon and Target. Saw some eBay sellers promoting CD sales, too.

I don’t think it’s all that strange considering the way the music industry is these days, e.g. surprise albums, etc.

Everyone is just kind of doing their own thing, trying out new shit. Perhaps delaying the streaming release made the RSD vinyl release feel more exclusive, in demand?

One trend I don’t like is how physical releases don’t come out until after streaming/digital purchases have been out for some time. I’ve seen delays between digital availability and physical release that spanned MONTHS. I’m not talking about surprise digital-exclusive releases, of course.

I don’t like paying for the same album twice, unless it’s deliberate or intentional, or if I really, really, really like the artist and want to support them.

I also don’t like how the vinyl format is often available before CD instead of the same time. I understand that vinyl is the physical format of choice at the moment but CDs are cheap and easy to produce swiftly.

Example: Marvin Gaye’s You’re the Man LP dropped in March (and is sold out or on back order on most major sites). The CD ain’t coming out to this Friday, April 26. SMH.

Maybe it wasn’t as good as the first SS or the Pete and CL albums, but that’s still a solid album.

This new Pete album has me revisiting some of these albums I haven’t listened to in probably a decade. NY’s Finest had joints too.

in addition to some other remixes he did, but even without them the album is really good. REALLY good.

grab that acapella version..and slap em together to make a jam sandwich. (even tho you got some J Rocc scratches on it)

no changeups, just monotonous
i liked a few joints, but he should have taken notes from his mentee, dilla, and used more vocal scratches and phrases to keep the listeners attention
at least for me, just listenin' to plain beats is boring
i need to hear vocals to stay interested
it's very few pure instrumentals that can keep my attention for 45 minutes, and the ones that do or did, it's because i'm listening to them over and over to study and learn from it, or i enjoy it that much

About 2/3 of the beats he was playing on his instagram were way better than the stuff that was on this album, but from a friend who has heard some amazing Pete Rock songs, he told me that stuff we want to hear all has vocals on them, and are unreleased songs he's been sitting on for mad years, in fact some of the songs off of "Petestrumentals" he still hasn't released the vocal versions for yet (such as "Hip Hopcrisy" & "Get Involved").

And I wouldn't be surprised he's still got a stash of beats he made for and wants to give to kats like Nas, Rae, etc. but won't let them be used for anything else.; plus remember all those intro promos & remixes he's done for the Future Flavas Show back in the 90's that we still haven't heard since, those joints is just sitting in his vault.

That ‘Kool Jazz’ track is absolutely wonderful. Love the OG sample anyway, but they way he’s used it is lovely. He seems to use quite a few K&TG samples from that same album... he’s got his favourite sounds 👍
