3006380, the great shame in this whole thing...

is that we were *this* close to another perfect Kanye album

with so many inspired ideas - beats, verses, hooks - spread out over what will be five albums, I think the best pieces of all of these projects could've been assembled to make something as good as Dark Twisted Fantasy

Pusha's "If You Know You Know" and "Santeria"
plus
Kanye's "Wouldn't Leave" and "Ghost Town" from Ye
plus
half of Kids See Ghost
plus
these Nas beats?
and
Who knows what he cooked up for Teyana Taylor, Pusha has said that's the best out of all of them

there's a lot of filler and even some trash, but damn if there aren't a lot of really creative gems across all of these projects too.

If Kanye had been selfish and just kept these highlights to himself he could've had another masterpiece on his hands.
3006384, i like his fearlessness in going out the box

3006409, Nas project proved he's past his prime for boombap
Posted by NoFuture4Us, Fri Jun-15-18 05:53 PM
Kanye is great at assembling teams for his own pop art / wannabe Warhol audio shit; but this Nas album is garbage.IMO nothing here is touching stuff he gave Common on BE / Finding Forever
3006419, son, boom bap is dead. it's a dinosaur sound now
Posted by Bblock, Fri Jun-15-18 11:38 PM
shit sounds like 80's era hip hop
like really old school
get with the new g
hip hop is progressive, never stagnant
boom bap is stale
ain't nothin' new to be done with it
all boom bap was was fools bitin' tribe's sound with the loud snares and boomin' kicks
shit is played out
i ain't sayin' trap is the future
not by any means
but it's more than one way to make a dope hip hop beat that's grimy in the 21st century without soundin' like you're stuck in the 90s
3006410, 1 hot beat an every 12 song average
Posted by JtothaI, Fri Jun-15-18 05:59 PM
hahaha I'm exaggerating a bit...but not so much.

Can't be the greatest ever when beats like COPS are so far between.

IMO I thought many of the beats over these 3 projects he just EP'd including his own sounded unfinished and too sparse in places. Seemed very rushed.
3006515, ^^ my thoughts 100%.

Rushed, empty, soulless, no meat on the bones so to speak. The shit is just boring. Outside like 5 songs I didn't even feel feelings throughout any of this string of albums.
3006415, Kanye stinks at rapping and is no longer good at producing

3006422, Half-assing 7 track “albums” is the new wave
Posted by Stadiq, Fri Jun-15-18 11:53 PM

Ye is a fucking fraud and a cornball.

He doesnt even make these half-baked beats
himself.

3006516, Agree. Funny that he rapped on "Cops" ...
Posted by Brew, Sun Jun-17-18 08:32 PM
... considering his recent bullshit.
3006531, So, are you suggesting he can’t be genuine in thought regarding both...
Posted by Creole, Sun Jun-17-18 10:40 PM
topics?

One can be against the bullshit while also offering an unpopular opinion.

Shit! No one really factually refuted his assertion that remaining in bondage was a choice?

I get it though... If one chooses to not support the guy, there’s no issue because it’s their choice. However, not supporting Kanye because one doesn’t agree with something he stated does not mean that Ye can’t also have strong feelings about other politically charged topics.

Back to the music...
Nas’ album doesn’t impress me so far. I’m on vacation and have Thad the opportunity to really chill with it. I may have done so if Nas wasn’t putting me to sleep.
3006542, LOL - and to think I was about to respond to this shit.

Posted by Stadiq, Fri Jun-15-18 11:57 PM

Than enthusiastcally cosigning a MAGA loving,
white supremecist excusing, cornball who
doesnt even write his own rhymes or
make his own beats anymore?

Is there not a less sad/damaging way for you
to feel down??

Love yourself. Choose better.
3006434, you caught up in his politics & other irrelevant shit
Posted by Bblock, Sat Jun-16-18 04:43 AM
i don't give a fuck about what he feels about trump or who his wife is
can he deliver fresh new music?
yes?
good enough for me
3006417, Cops and white label
Posted by High Society, Fri Jun-15-18 10:17 PM
are really the only joints I fuck with on the Nas album.
Everything else is just kinda blah.

The intro? Just Blaze woulda done a Nas intro 1000x better.
I get the feeling they were trying to capture.
The Hate Me Now / Stillmatic Intro - epic, cinematic, the RETURN!
ye totally missed the mark.

All of it’s average. Same with Nas is raps.
Dude has 5-6 years to craft songs and BRING IT!

Cause he brought it on Life is Good.
This album sounds like he’s lost a step or two.

3006436, it's a reason why these formerly dope producers ain't
Posted by Bblock, Sat Jun-16-18 04:47 AM
gettin called to do big projects
no new groundbreaking material
just retreads of their old shit
we know just blaze is gonna sample some hi speed gospel and chop it up and put some thunderous drums behind it.
boring
primo is trying at least. i commend him for branching out with phryme and what not
primo may have a chance to go further
the rest of these so called sample base producers?
stuck in the 90s
3006456, ^^^just posted a Just Blaze soul sample joint

Blah is the only word to describe it. The return of Nas after 6 long years was supposed to be like a bomb hitting the hip-hop world. Instead we got a sparkler.

Ye ruined Nas. I have a feeling Nas had a WAY better album shaping up and instead decided to roll with this weird ye wave and it backfired. Wonder if any of the shit he did the last 6 years will see the light of day.

First boom bap is old and not-progressive:

Then you praise Cops which is boom bap and a rip off of many similar beats...and it’s poorly executed.

Not to mention you on instagram making mad boom bap beats.

Second you tell people don’t worry about Ye’s politics and only quality.

But when people bring up how bad Cops sounds you tell them it’s because they’ve never been harassed by the cops.

Which is it bro?

You still a walking contradiction for the sake of being different with all that gray in your beard man?

Grow yo ass up.
3006462, *sigh*... point by point

cops is 808. boom bap is tribe sounding drum beats. hard kick and snare over a loop with a heavy SWING to it. cops is more straight sixteenth with no swing

>Not to mention you on instagram making mad boom bap beats.

that is not a boom bap beat, at least not how i define boom bap. it's me experimenting with 80s samples, which i normally don't use or do

>Second you tell people don’t worry about Ye’s politics and

>
>But when people bring up how bad Cops sounds you tell them

that ain't got nothin' to do with politics. it's the message to the music. yall stuck on the messenger, not the message. cops doesn't sound bad to me to the point where i'd ignore it over what the underlying message is

>
>Which is it bro?

i think i cleared it all up
>You still a walking contradiction for the sake of being

don't be jelly of the signs of my knowledge and wisdom

i'm quite grown. stop arguin' over opinions on the net, would be my advice to you and not take things so serious. you'll live to be my age then *wink*

hm. gotcha.
We Got It From Here... is probably the only album of the last few years that I still make time to go back to weekly. I can't imagine knocking Tip right now...to each his own
3006451, One of most annoying beats I've heard on a while
Posted by xangeluvr, Sat Jun-16-18 09:47 AM
I hate that vocal sample. Maybe it's just the mixing of it, not sure, but I am sure I don't like it.

>of this summer

3006463, not any more annoying than lil wayne's a mili
Posted by Bblock, Sat Jun-16-18 02:38 PM
i've only heard the bootleg and the livestream
maybe the mixed and mastered version will be better and duck the sample under his vocals better.
word is they're still mastering the vinyl, so...
3006486, cops is a lazy ass beat
Posted by liveguy, Sat Jun-16-18 10:58 PM
that shit is not innovative at all.

it bangs for like 2 bars and then realize that’s all it is with some lame (this is hype right!?) yell in the background.

And that’s the bright spot of the album. lol
3006518, Haha yea, it is. This whole string of albums lazy as hell.

Even "Adam & Eve" which I loved on first listen became flat almost immediately. Just a boring loop with no drums and no soul/feeling at all.
3006491, RE: Cops
Posted by bills, Sun Jun-17-18 01:11 AM
We've praised "the OGs" for straightup loops...they get praise for their "ear" or their "digging"...
When it comes to Kanye, suddenly difficulty and process count in hip hop. Noted
3006494, Your analogy is way off...
Posted by Anonymous, Sun Jun-17-18 08:13 AM
That beat is lazy because he didn’t take the time to create the portion of the instrumental without the vocal sample. And the vocal sample is too distracting for someone to rap over so the beat is seen as lazy. He needed to be able to drop that out on the verses, especially considering who he was producing for.

3006499, RE: Your analogy is way off...
Posted by spidey, Sun Jun-17-18 10:31 AM
Exactly...
3006509, RE: Your analogy is way off...
Posted by bills, Sun Jun-17-18 05:32 PM
I disagree, but I'm cool with this critique. Most cats are in here calling the beat "lazy", and leaving it at that.
Personally, I like beats like this, and "A Mili", as someone else mentioned...and I think it works here. So, I guess the point you made wasn't obvious to me, because I saw it as a choice that adds to the frenetic feeling of the track, rather than the product of rushing or lack of effort.
I appreciate you clearing that up.
What's really lazy, tho, is most of the criticism of "Cops"/Nasir in this post.

Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Mon Jun-18-18 09:44 AM
...that was the most unenthusiastic intro of all time

"escobar *yawn* season begins..." dude sound like he just heard his own terrible album and tacked on the appropriate intro to it.. like "I cant believe how bad this is, oh well.. here goes"

Nas is known for picking shitty beats.. he's set the bar lower than ever with this record.. holy shit..
