if there is something that you felt that was off about 80's music and the artists what was it.

I generally dont like the hard rock guitar riffs that were used in a lot of 80's rap. That being said there are some dope songs with that sound, but generally I dont like it. Much prefer songs with funk samples...

The glassy sounding rhodes piano just always rubbed me the wrong way.

Seems like 80's artists ( usually teen artists) made REALLY bad covers. I like covers if they're well done, but most of the 80's slipped the tempo and turned the song completely upside down, generally with bad results.

that big 80's reverb sound that everybody put on their drums. I'm looking at you Phil Collins.
