2982585, My favorite group. Stays in rotation. Posted by JtothaI, Wed Jan-25-17 01:46 PM
Been waiting for something like this for years and years.
Ralph with his bruce lee kicks up on the pedastal and Bobby making moves on the girl Ralph had his eye on was classic. I knew Bob was gonna do that!
So far this is the best biopic from production value, to acting, to emotion on my end. This looks like its gonna do the group some justice.
Its also great to see all the names I've stared at on my 12" singles for all my life come to life on screen. Busby. Starr. Silas Jr. JumNShoot. Streetwize.
Really looking forward to the Home Again tour stuff. They nailed the stage setup with the house in the background. I went to that show in Anaheim and Ralph and Ron were missing that night and I didn't really have any idea of the drama going on then. That was basically pre "todays" internet. AOL and compuserve days haha.
Also looking forward to the Heartbreak tour parts. Amzong concert at the Forum in LA.

To your point, I thought that the degree of detail was very evident when they were shooting the Candy Girl cover. Them trippin on who would be in what spot and the smile vs the ice grills.
Also the Kurtis Blow encounter. That's crazy. I could never imagine Kurt being that insecure but then again, a young Kurt, in NYC might very well go the hater route!
Anyway, this joint is dope man. Looking forward to the remaining nights.

That was great detail. I hope they do into the cover for each album like that. Love hwo they are using FULL recreated performances that are so on point.
They had a month long bootcmp out her in Cali with the cast and artists to get each individual persons movement right. Down to how each of them snapped their fingers, leaned their shoulders etc. I read something where Mike was saying that the actor was saying to him during rehearsals "but that's the choreography, I'm doing it right" and Mike says "I know it is, but this is how I do it..." so even the variances from member to member are going to be authentic.

I heard about the group being "REALLY" involved but not to that extent. That's ill. I could totally see Biv like "nah, like this..."
Dope!

This joint is so on point so far.
I'm already feeling like I wish there were more days worth of show left.

That's what I did. Shot it to the TV through the Chromecast.
Also, if you use the xfinity login, I don't know if you need an account, just a twitter or facebook login.

2982650, the Soul Train backstage scene Posted by Original Juice, Thu Jan-26-17 01:23 PM
I appreciate them including dramatized versions of 2 of the most iconic ST dancers from the 80's, at least in my memory.. the fly Asian girl (although I remember her looking more scary than fly back then) and then the lanky light skinned dude with the pimpstroll, hat, and cane who used to roll with some of them back then.

2982671, Lou Ski and Cheryl Song! Posted by HIM, Thu Jan-26-17 04:26 PM
I thought about this post when I saw them each stroll through the scene!
They were both definitely the Soul Train Team Mascots for sure.

2982651, So many Easter Eggs. Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Thu Jan-26-17 01:33 PM
You need to follow Dart Adams on instagram/Twitter. He's giving a ton of history on some of the detailed moments of the mini series.
There was one last night in EP2 that I KNOW has to be something. When the guys were in the hallway before doing Soul Train, somebody walked by and gave them a "what's up". And they lingered on that moment longer than others which made me think he was something important.
Anybody know who that was?

2982699, I thought that they were just pausing until the "Cost was clear"... Posted by HIM, Fri Jan-27-17 08:32 AM
They were having a private conversation and they kept getting quiet each time someone would walk through just so that nobody would hear what they were saying.
Lou Ski(resident Soul Train dancer) may be the one you are referring to though.

2982720, HOLDIN ON! Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Jan-27-17 01:49 PM
strange that one of my favorite parts of a New Edition biopic is a song by LTD.
I would kill to hear a version of NE doing that song.
It was an entertaining show. When you think about it, they could have faded completely from sight after the ill-fated Under The Blue Moon
they came back with a CLASSIC, split three ways and dropped CLASSICS
the only ones that could attempt to fill the shoes of the J5

2982729, Ditto. I want to hear NE do 'Holdin On' Posted by HotThyng76, Fri Jan-27-17 02:44 PM
That song has been in my head all day. _______________________

They never addresses Blue Moon other than Bobby clowing them for signing oldies. Never said if it was a label obligation type thing or what.

2982745, wikipedia... Posted by JtothaI, Fri Jan-27-17 06:58 PM
Guess it was to get out of the jump and shoot production deal. In the series Michael could have easily said something in passing about finding a way out of it after his meeting with Busby and they could have flashed to shooting the cover and that's it.
Now that I think about I think they brushed over All for Love too, don't recall it getting the cover shoot treatment in the series.

2982722, "Phil Collins and The Genesis" Posted by be_yourself, Fri Jan-27-17 02:05 PM
lol...love that line.
I wasn't too familiar with New Edition although they had that big hit with 'Candy Girl'. On the other hand Bobby Brown blew up really big in the UK. I love a lot of his stuff and 'Two Can Play That Game' (apparently the remix) was one of my favourite songs of the nineties. Got nice family memories associated with that song.
The New Edition story was really interesting though. I thought Ralph and Johnny Gill had really nice voices, and it was interesting to see how things played out within the music industry.

2982731, never knew about ricky's drug issues Posted by The Goldng Child, Fri Jan-27-17 02:59 PM
I had to rewind the DVR three times to re-watch the tour wrap-party scene with Bobby and the cakes. This was amazing.

2982747, Just finished Bobbys book... Posted by JtothaI, Fri Jan-27-17 07:00 PM
I've been reading it over the last month or two (not much time to sit down and read) and while he did come clean on the drugs, I don't recall him saying that he was that into it while in NE.
Pretty sure it was around the Don't be Cruel touring that it started. Gonna have to re-read.

2982760, Again, the detail. Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Fri Jan-27-17 11:16 PM
Loved the album covers. The recreation of the videos.
But it's the little things.
Like that BET performance at the end, Bobby over sang a part of Mr. Telephone man. That really happened. While small, I appreciate the depths they went to recreate these moments.

2982828, I really enjoyed this Posted by tapedeck, Sun Jan-29-17 07:32 PM
-Young folks now will know who L.T.D is - Fake NE can sing! - I thought Steve Hodge was black. I thought I saw that written somewhere - Cool nods to Louil Silas Jr(Remix King) and Al Haymond - I hate they didn't become millionaires off the debut album. I saw that album in many households - Did they have FATHERS?

2982831, Made me feel kinda bad for Ralph Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Sun Jan-29-17 08:40 PM
Seems like he had the least success outside of the group even though he was the lead singer.
