2915368, What's the most overlooked Dilla beat?

This is one of those beats you can't appreciate unless you just let it ride and then you'll understand the genius behind it.

Busta's Lament was my favorite Dilla beat but I read that Bay-Lloyd produced it???
2915383, 2 of my favs are the ALT Intro on Ruff Draft
Posted by High Society, Tue Jan-06-15 02:05 AM
and Cold Steel.

The ALT Intro ain't ever gonna get a lot of burn
because it's not a song, he's just shouting out people on it.
Unless you were to loop the instrumental and have a 3 min beat.

And cold steel - which was a single - is SUCH a banger.
One of the things I loved / hated about Dilla was his loyalty
to his people, he gave an incredible amount of REALLY GOOD music
to people that couldn't give him the exposure that some of that
music could've given him if in the hands of a bigger artist.
That's no disrespect to the Phat Kats, Frank N Dank's of the world...
They made good use of those beats.

Even when he was healthy, if you ain't go to the D, you ain't get a Dilla beat. LOL.

and the beat you posted... whooooo!

that lil horn stab? fuck! just gives the beat a whole diff flavor imo.

2915395, Not Sure That's An Overlooked Beat If It Was A Frank-N-Dank Song

Frank-N-Dank "Love": http://youtu.be/hFbyWpUAZF4

To me an overlooked beat would be an beat than never got used (if that is even possible these days with every kat finding the beat-tapes lanks and rhyming over them) but it there is a few joints that he's made that I love so much and even wrote a few rhymes to but I'm surprised that no one picked it (maybe T3, Baatin, or maybe Busta have but never released it to the public) though.

My picks are tracks 9, 10, & 16 ( http://youtu.be/2ep6_u5doQg ) off "Another Batch", wish I knew how to look the others up on tubeyou but I didn't feel like searching all night.

2915396, the one you linked is FLAMES.

2915461, Track 23 is fucking KILLER!
Posted by jp, Tue Jan-06-15 03:44 PM
One of my all time faves. Q-tip also stated it was one of his favorite unused Jay Dee beats.
2915482, No one's rhymed over this!? (#23)
Posted by High Society, Tue Jan-06-15 05:38 PM
I feel like I've heard someone rap or sing over that.
Could be wrong and just played it a lot and that's why
I feel like I've heard vocals on it.

Either way, yeah - one of my favs.

'underappreciated'.
if that's what we're talkin' about: Busta - Still Shining. one my absolute faves I never hear anyone mention.

if we're talkin' beat tape joints that never got rhymed over, THIS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2fs91u42AE (are you kidding me??!)
2915501, This is good!!!

people never seem to talk about Jay's work on that album outside of The Light. but to me that's the golden era of Jay Dee (2000 right before the name switch to Dilla.) same year you had the proper release of Fantastic Vol. 2, his joints on Mama's Gun, and his joints on Anarchy (some of his best btw.)

i mean on LWFC alone, you got:

Heat
Nag Champa
Doonit
Thelonius
Funky For You
The Questions

take your pick.

2915540, never heard this before

luscious.

(damn, is that Dilla rhyming 3rd? barely recognized his voice)
2915564, It sure is
Posted by PCProductions, Wed Jan-07-15 11:51 AM
It's also funny hearing what Dilla approved/disapproved of. He definitely had to trim Baatin's raps more than once for that Fantastic Vol 1 project. He would just go on and on about complete nonsense.
2915720, Inbox me if you'd like any of those songs I mentioned
