2891194, the 7 minute intro was proof-positive these guys... Posted by vanilla_coke, Sat Jul-05-14 07:21 PM
were smelling their own farts at this point.
and "the w" a few years later? lol. forget about it!
|
2891195, Who listens to intros on an album anyway? Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Sat Jul-05-14 07:24 PM
Them shits get a spin on the initial album and never again. I don't listen to skits or nothing after the first spin.
|
2891214, shoot, the album art alone gave me a sinking feeling Posted by AFKAP_of_Darkness, Sun Jul-06-14 06:36 AM
by the time that intro got going, my soul was crushed.
The album ended up having some joints, but that was really the definition of a mixed affair.
I've probably listened to that album in its entirety three times, tops. Too much effort wading through the sludge to get to the gems.

2891190, I dont think they were trying to do that with Phren Posted by astralblak, Sat Jul-05-14 06:37 PM
I felt that's what TFA was, and they achieved greatness with it
Phrenology seemed like the Roots trying to figure out where to take their sound next, which led to a more poppy neo soul / r&b feel
Outside Undun, Phrenology is my least favorite Roots album

2891191, phrenology was the start of their downfall. Posted by vanilla_coke, Sat Jul-05-14 06:43 PM
where you know who lost his head up his own ass, making records for critics, obsessing over "minstrelsy" and not just doing his best for the satisfaction of the listener.
this record was laughable at it's attempts to be a "swerve" to the fans.
truly an awful, unsatisfying and worst of all inartistic album that questlove to this day still doesn't even realize or recognize the failure of.
with him at the helm, they continued down this delusional path for the rest of their career.
the only reprieve being a few solitary tracks dispersed throughout the next 10 years worth of releases.

2891203, oh, you're on some straight up dumb shit Posted by Anonymous, Sat Jul-05-14 09:17 PM
ok
|
2891210, Oh, you mean Thought, right? Posted by Dr_Gonzo, Sun Jul-06-14 12:46 AM
Because the way I hear it, that's where a lot of his meant-to-be-solo work went.
I mean, I don't agree with you either way, but I wanted to be perfectly clear on who I'm disagreeing with you about.
|
2891209, just listened to this for the first time in a while the other day. Posted by shockzilla, Sun Jul-06-14 12:43 AM
it's a fucking brilliant album.
once more, you're just straight up talking out your arse.
|
2891211, i'm glad you enjoyed it. Posted by vanilla_coke, Sun Jul-06-14 01:00 AM
sorry you have such awful taste in music.
thanks for replying again.

2891213, motherfucker, you know nothing about music. Posted by shockzilla, Sun Jul-06-14 06:16 AM
not a goddamn thing.
for all the thousand of banal bitchassed posts you've made through the years
(such as are currently littering the front page of the lesson)
nothing could be clearer.
you don't have a fucking clue.

2891197, Busta Rhymes - Extinction Level Event Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sat Jul-05-14 07:28 PM
I love that album tho. I felt like he was giving it his best because he felt it would be his last album before the world ended, lol. Homie seriously thought this shit was 'bout to be over in 2000.

2891199, over half of Kaney's catalog Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Sat Jul-05-14 08:17 PM
despite what people think about it, the guy makes some seriously uneven albums
|
2891228, Yea - I came in here to post MBDPF and Yeezus Posted by Brew, Sun Jul-06-14 09:48 AM
I like his first three albums a LOT but after he made 808s it was a wrap.
