2863927, New Year Fun Post: What Would've Happened If...
Posted by Anonymous, Thu Jan-02-14 12:09 PM
Simple...post something in the subject like that could've happened in music and reply under the subject with what we believe would've happened as a result.

I'll start a few obvious ones off...feel free to add on.

2863934, Would've been a mixture of Jay and Nas

I think he would've followed A similar path to Jay as far as music goes an worke with all of the popular producers and continued to make hits. Not sure if he would've left Puff. But I think he would've followed a similar path as Nas in his visibility outside of music. I don't think he would've have been the same business man like Jay.

2863974, More wack shit
Posted by Luke Cage, Thu Jan-02-14 05:07 PM
Sampling in the hands of wack dudes is a scary thing. I don't want to imagine what folks like Dipset would do with no sample clearances required.
2863977, but synths in the hands of sack people doesn't = wack shit?
Posted by Anonymous, Thu Jan-02-14 05:22 PM
ok
2863993, That's Heatmakerz, Kanye & Just Blaze...

...not Dipset.

And their music got shittier, without question, once they stopped getting major label budgets to clear samples. Cam'Ron is one of my favorite emcees but his music sounds like it was mixed/mastered inside of a tin can & unless they are putting out free/mixtape songs, none of those guys are clearing samples like Def Jam or Sony used to do for them.

All this would lead to are retail albums with more samples, possibly more recognizable/obvious ones at that. Could go either way. We know Bulletproof Wallets would have been a better album had the samples been cleared. Streets Disciple, too.

Half of these indie rap labels aren't even clearing samples. Not much would change in actuality.
2863978, Miles and Jimi record an album together

2864079, the funk, fusion, Black Rock scene would have become more

"galvanized" or "extreme" or "prominent" in the 70's black music tapestry.

It went somewhat far under the influence of the "Band of Gypsys" LP but...not far enough.
