I can be neglectful of minding my own business sometimes. I suggest we should all turn it down a little bit? I always dig what both Shock and max has to say...is it really this personal? Good-natured posturing and jive talking can be fun. Someone, somewhere along the line has lost perspective or took something too seriously. And so what...I'm a cheezie lame who feels better when people get along.

I can see how one might say MJ was a better 'album' artist. Cause the word 'album' sometimes refers to a more conceptual, cerebral type of artistry. And MJ definitely is heavier in that regard to Marvin Gaye.

Yah ya ya....'What's going on' is often characterized and appreciated as a concept album....but I think this has been overstated. What really is the concept? He got rid of the conventional songwriters....recorded some songs with extended jams focusing moreso on instrumentation and atmosphere....wrote some more conscious type lyrics. It all resulted in a classic album....but it's a music-lover's album.

MJ kind of transcends just the 'music-lover' thing. He's got the encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture and used that to appropriate all sorts of different artforms, genre and eras into a multi-media type of artistic statement. Some of the connotations with the term 'album' I just associate more with MJ's type of artistry than Gaye's.

For me, Marvin is the dude that I just wanna check out at a club and enjoy the singing and playing. MJ is the dude that is gonna show you his new 'project' and it's going to involve more than just instruments and singing.
