Berry thought he might be getting another Leon F. Sylvers (another cat who'd blow Rick's lame ass Funk/Disco/Metal tribute act OUT THE WATER!!!!) with DeBarge...but little did he know Rick had set the tone for the young brothers out in Hollywood.
See...Rick was used to kicking it with the whiteboys from the 60's...and really wanted to be is in the black version (small "b") of "KISS"...which is what his whole Conan the Barbarian/Pimp Out Frank Frazetta image was about.
Also Rick claimed "Punk Funk"...but he really meant Disco/Ballad/Funk.
