2844906, Vic Mensa - INNANETAPE (Mixtape)

http://itzsoweezee.com/vic-mensa-innanetape-mixtape/

surprised this isn't a post about this, but I was inspired by the Chance the Rapper "Acid Raps" post to make one for Vic Mensa's new effort

his style is really similar to Chance, but he has his own spin too. Kid is only 19 so he has room to grow, but this is a great project.

Some big guest appearances on it and he worked with some nice producers.

The videos off the mixtape have been tight too.

Happy to see these Chicago emcees that serve as an alternative to the Chief Keefs etc.

tracklist:
01 Welcome to INNANET (prod. Vic Mensa, Cam & Peter Cottontale)
02 Orange Soda (prod. Cam for J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League)
03 Lovely Day (prod. Vic Mensa & Peter Cottontale)
04 Tweakin’ f. Chance the Rapper (prod. Michael Uzowuru)
05 FUN! (Interlude)
06 Magic f. Jesse Boykins III (prod. Peter Cottontale)
07 Time Is Money f. Rockie Fresh (prod. Boi-1nda & The Maven Boys)
08 YNSP f. Eliza Doolittle (prod. DJ Dahi)
09 Hollywood LA f. Lili K (prod. Cam for J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League & Tae Beast)
10 Holy Holy f. Ab-Soul & BJ The Chicago Kid (prod. Cam for J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Peter Cottontale & Om’Mas Keith)
11 Fear & Doubt f. Kenna & Joey Purp (prod. Christian Rich)
12 Yap Yap (prod. Michael Uzowuru)
13 RUN! f. Thundercat (prod. Vic Mensa, Peter Cottontale & Om’Mas Keith)
14 That Nigga (prod. Hit-Boy)

2845076, Ab-Soul's verse on Holy Holy.... damn....
Posted by Crash85, Wed Oct-02-13 11:45 AM
I had already read about what had happened, but damn, that must have taken a lot for him to write/record that verse....

Overall, a really solid album/mixtape... Vic is definitely spittin... Hopefully him and Chance work together more...
2865857, did you not hear control sysytem
Posted by astralblak, Thu Jan-16-14 01:10 PM

..I've already seen Disclosure live.. But the bill is way more appealing now that I've heard Vic's tape
2845121, RE: yea i might have to check the Toronto show even though..
Posted by double 0, Wed Oct-02-13 01:18 PM
Yea he's great live...

Being in kids these days really helped him get his sea legs on stage...

way better than 95% of these new rap acts.. lol
2845133, Are we ready for Disclosure to bring back hip house?
Posted by mrshow, Wed Oct-02-13 01:54 PM
2845088, this has had a great buzz for a mixtape
Posted by Small Pro, Wed Oct-02-13 11:58 AM

2845128, connections will do that.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Oct-02-13 01:36 PM

??

You must not be familiar with Kids These Days..

They kinda help put Chance on..

They've already done Adidas Commercials... Lollapalooza.. Toured..

since they broke up 2 of them are on tour with Frank Ocean.. and so yea..

He's not coming out of nowhere.

I wish people wouldnt compare this to Acid Rap though.
2845142, yes folks kill me calling him a Chance clone...I'm like he help put
Posted by Menphyel7, Wed Oct-02-13 04:16 PM
Chance on.."I'm still jealous of vic and Vic still jealous of me" lol
2845144, RE: yes folks kill me calling him a Chance clone...I'm like he help put

Basically..

Shit is true though.. I hope the lil homies stay tight though..

Save Money... Kids These Days all the young cats go a great little crew... A really strong home base in the Chi..

2865858, LOL at both of you pretending they are not similar
Posted by astralblak, Thu Jan-16-14 01:13 PM
and that it is natural for folks to compare since Chance had the bigger year.

also who cares if Vic put him on. Chance is his own entity right now.

and Vic def kinda came outta nowhere. great, you TWO knew about the past group he was in. most folks didn't
2884719, Yeah its clear they are very similar
Posted by Heinz, Tue May-13-14 08:42 AM
flow wise Chance is better, he finds melodies easier and makes them catchier

Vic speech is much more clear.

2845155, i'll be honest i slept on Chance until i went to Chicago and met
Posted by wrecknoble, Wed Oct-02-13 05:21 PM
some of the crew involved with making his videos, which was earlier this summer when i was spending a couple of nights at Dave Bolland's house (yea i'm name-dropping, so what, lol)

after i got back to Toronto i dug up Acid Raps and was like 'damn this kid is ill'

same with Kids These Days.. didn't give em a chance (i get flooded with music on a daily basis, i can't be checking EVERYTHING)

i only really looked up Vic when the tape dropped (had been seeing his name on the blogosphere but ignored) and realized he is talented as hell

so it's kinda cool that i made the connection backwards compared to most people who had been paying attention..

definitely not sleeping on the Chicago scene anymore though, crazy talented kids out there

once The Remix Project gets established out there (in the works), i'm sure a lot more kids are gonna get the shine they deserve (www.theremixproject.ca)
2845191, meh I'll take Mick Jenkins over both them dudes...
Posted by Stadiq, Wed Oct-02-13 09:49 PM
2845148, Traphouse Rock!
Posted by Crash85, Wed Oct-02-13 04:54 PM
If you slept on that project, that's your fault....
2845154, seen a few of their youtube videos, they aint do it for me.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Oct-02-13 05:17 PM
he's better off alone.
2845269, felt the same way, didn't give em a chance, but Vic
Posted by wrecknoble, Thu Oct-03-13 08:43 AM
is definitely better solo
2884718, yeah the band altho some stuff sounded dope
Posted by Heinz, Tue May-13-14 08:27 AM
visually was corny...i mean that video alone was like School Of Rock kids grew up lol

2865859, the tape is good, but
Posted by astralblak, Thu Jan-16-14 01:25 PM
it's a bit too somber/woe is me lyrically at points. cool, you where in a group and it didn't work out and you fell off a bridge and broke your arm and now you're on, what else?

ironically it's his more upbeat joints like "Lovely Day" that I don't fuck with.

Like Chance, he's a technical beast and has a good hear for hooks, and I wish he'd just rap his ass off here and there for the fuck of it.

there is a GREAT handful of songs on here tho

2865982, iono, i like this better than Acid Rap
Posted by temps2020, Fri Jan-17-14 10:48 AM
2866006, I find myself bored by it whenever I've tried.
Posted by Nodima, Fri Jan-17-14 12:41 PM
I love Acid Rap, it's grown on me more than I ever expected it would when I first heard it. But I can't dig this one at all, and I'm not very much into Chance's 10 Day, either.
