Dope...
2840239, i like how there's no comments beyond the beginning...
Posted by buffalo_sauce, Thu Sep-12-13 06:52 PM
meaning... nobody even listened to the end.

but still...

"DOPE!"
2840243, What about it don't you like?
Posted by rhymesandammo, Thu Sep-12-13 07:01 PM
The majority of the stuff that I've heard from this album has been a good balance between the braggadocios rap stuff Drake does and his R&B-tinged stuff. He's been experimenting with different flows and cadences and actually sounds like he's excited as opposed to the majority of the so-called "top-tier" guys right now. If you're not into his music, this probably isn't going to sell you on him, but, yeah...dope.
2840260, i don't like anything about it.
Posted by buffalo_sauce, Thu Sep-12-13 07:53 PM
it's a total dud by my count, but it's not for me to begin with...

the beats a dud. the chorus is a dud. the verses are wack.
there's nothing even remotely that draws me in and might make me want to come back... but that's me.

10/10 ***** everywhere else. i'm cool with it.

but you notice not one comment past 2 minutes in? lol.

Shit dope man
2840241, I like it
Posted by CMcMurtry, Thu Sep-12-13 06:58 PM
That song title is very corny, very J. Cole-ish.
2840244, RE: I like it
Posted by Tony Hanes, Thu Sep-12-13 07:05 PM
I think title cool b/c the "its yours" in the background and the way Drake started 2nd verse....he just having fun with it...I fuck with it man..
2840246, Agreed.
Posted by rhymesandammo, Thu Sep-12-13 07:12 PM
But it's not Cole-ish in execution, Cole would have flipped "Nautilus" the exact same way RZA did, add some new drums over it and probably use his last verse to pay his respects to Ol' Dirty.
2840249, RE: Agreed.
Posted by Tony Hanes, Thu Sep-12-13 07:20 PM

Amy Winehouse is a fantastic writer who could properly articulate what she writes as needed to make fantastic music without losing any of the feeling of vulnerability and sincerity of those words.

Drake is a good emcee who takes bitch nigga concepts and uses his good ass emcee skills to legitimize bitch made-ness.

Amy's music touched my heart...

Drake's music don't move me...

Nah, I don't see the connection

Drake is a wack artist, plain & simple

you like Drake, fine

but don't be all pissy bc some whiteboys have better taste in hip-hop than you, it just makes you look like a mad ass follower using race to cover up his inadequecies

also, white ppl buy most of Drake's records

it's crazy how dummies like you denigrate white hip-hop heads who actually know & give a fuck about the culture while celebrating the artists that white outsiders to the culture love & promote as the "great" rap artists

so who are the real "white gatekeepers"?

I'm with you, Nonny...I'm always trying to improve and hone my craft. I've worked with enough people that you like/respect, though, who appreciate what I bring to the table, regardless of if there's room to improve or not. I'm aware what I do is not going to be for everyone, though. Thanks for taking the time out to listen. I see you have problems expressing yourself, so I'll disregard the insults.

Just out of curiosity, why is my perspective the way it is? Do you know me? Or really anything about me? Or are you mad that I called you homophobic earlier this year and never bothered to jump back into the ring to go tit-for-tat with you?

I check everything out and give my opinion on it. Some may not like my opinion but that's cool. I'll always tell you what it is because I'm passionate about hip-hop.

I see you have
>problems expressing yourself, so I'll disregard the insults.
>

I have no problem expressing myself. I express myself according to the person I'm talking to. These clowns in here, SeV, BrooklynWhat, mrshow, and all these other dudes I don't give a fuck about. I knew exactly who was going to come in here and respond every time I posted. Look at the posts. I said one thing and let the dickriders swarm, then came on later and did it again. This shit is whatever to me. I don't give a fuck who y'all like. I know plenty of cats that like Drake in real life. Doesn't bother me one bit. Doesn't change the fact I think his music is terrible. I find it hilarious that people catch feelings and get so offended by the word "bitch" or "fucking idiot". It's hilarious that people take that as "mad". It's all barbershop talk. It's all street ball talk. Shit ain't that serious my man.

>Just out of curiosity, why is my perspective the way it is? Do
>you know me? Or really anything about me? Or are you mad that
>I called you homophobic earlier this year and never bothered
>to jump back into the ring to go tit-for-tat with you?

You called me homophobic? I don't recall but if you did you would be very far off. I do believe someone tried to claim I used words like "faggot" which I don't and challenged them to find that post. Not sure of that was you. Either way, you couldn't be more wrong if you think I'm homophobic. I'm actually one of the most down to earth people you'd ever meet.

The perspective comment was just to say that since your music sucks, you probably have low standards in what you think is good. Nothing more nothing less.

But good day my dude. Enjoy your Drake. I've been on an Aesop Rock fix. Much more artistically interesting than Wu-Tang Forever.

Normally though? I think it's because a few things. The "Soft" meme plays a big part. The fact that he was a child actor is another. It makes the internet play the "authenticity" card.

But for me? Reason I react so strongly is because I genuinely like dude and think he can spit, but wish he would stop thinking he's an R&B singer. I want him to rip on the mic and hit me with them bars that make me go "Awwwwwww damn." I want cuts I can spin when I DJ and people can get into, not ambient odes to strippers he tried to save. Those songs are cool too, but I get bummed out that those jams outweigh the tracks where he just goes. I guess....

I love the Wu-Tang, even the second-string guys. I've never stopped listening to them, even as they have declined in "relevance" and popularity. However, let's pretend we're not rap nerds who spend all day on a message board and let's pretend we're someone with a passing interest in hip-hop who only gets their music from terrestrial radio, Twitter and Rap Radar -- is this not the most visible *look* the Wu has had since the critical adoration that OB4CL2 received? Maybe it's the biggest look since Kanye put Raekwon and Ghost on a bunch of tracks, but neither of those things explicitly said "Wu-Tang" so brazenly...I mean, shit, man, it's in the title of the actual song. It's a good look for the Wu, regardless if you fuck with Drake or the song.

I don't own nan one of this dudes albums, but I do realize this is what lane he stays in. What's funny is offline and in the streets you really don't hear niggas going this hard at Drake. If they don't listen to his music they just keep it that way and bump some other shit.

On here tho, you'd swear the nigga fucked one of ya broads.

Dude has spit hot verses before. Sure he raps for the hoes, no one denied that. No where close to being the top rapper but he's far from the worse out right now.

A certain demographic does seem to be more "mad" on here than another, but imma leave that alone.

Y'all bout as emo as Drake over his music through. I don't really pay much attention to music I don't like. Summa y'all should try doing the same. Makes your blood pressure stay nice and low.

referencing names that have nothing or at best a tangential connection to a song's topic/theme/feel is a rap trend that's been going on for at least half a decade or more.

Barry Bonds-Wayne/Ye
Donald Trump-Mac Miller
Scottie Pippens-Curren$y/Freddie Gibbs
*insert countless Lil B songs here*

I don't even really get fazed by it at this point, it's just a byproduct of this post-web/hyper-meta era.

Michael Jordan - Kendrick Lamar f/Schoolboy Q
Rosa Parks - Outkast (She didn't take that one as well as the Wu)
etc...

Yeah, it's not that big of deal.

With that said, I couldn't make it past the first 45 seconds of the track. If folks like it, good for them.. but I lightweight got excited with that title combined with the fact that Drake can actually rap when he wants to even though I'm far from a fan of his. I can't even comment on the quality of the music.. just that it's not for me.

Fight the Power
Self Destruction
T.R.O.Y
Shook Ones
Buck'em Down
Kick in the Door

Imagine these titles with a nigga crooning about a chick on all of these? C'mon yo... shits disgusting.

The reason Drake gets hate for this is because he can actually rap pretty good. So when you see a title like Wu-Tang Forever you expect some rugged shit/rap shit.

Not some: I fuuuuuuck em down, I fuuuuck em down, I'm not a crook hon, I'm a shook one for your loooove.

Your love is headed for self destruuuuuuuction... oooh girl.

Yo...untuck yalls balls yo, you know this shit ain't right. Chicks and young bitch ass niggas gonna request Wu-Tang Forever and be mad as fuck when Wu comes on. Niggas gonna be all "The beats so hard, I can't slow dance or fap to this...why are they so angry?"
2840862, Wu-Tang Forever isn't a song title tho so the analogy doesn't quite work
Posted by Bombastic, Sun Sep-15-13 11:11 AM
I don't see any risk of DJ confusion between their double-album & an album track on Drake's album.

It's dude using a song hook from that album (prolly not knowing that Wu were paying homage to an old rap classic when they made a song called 'Its Yourz') and using it to tell the story he's trying to tell with a girl telling him 'it's yourz' whenever he wants it aka 'forever'.

It ain't a song I'll be bumping but it's also not an affront to me either, the metaphor makes sense in that context.

I think it's a tribute to what the Wu built that without a proper group album this decade they've been headlining major music festivals this summer & their name has now found its way into two different generations of rap acts (De La Soul & Drake) in this calendar year.

Only thing I don't like is some of the blatant disrespect or the lack of paying homage to old heads who helped make hip hop what it is today.

I know some don't give a fuck but I think Lupe not talking to Pete Rock about using T.R.O.Y. is crazy IMO given the songs place in hip hop... and yes, I know its a sample but in Hip Hop we know damn well where it stands as far as tribute records.

I do t want these new heads to take It Takes a Million or Black Steel in the Hour and turn it into a parody rap or love song.

Their should be rules to this shit.
2840865, RE: hip hop is alive... they just be concealing it.

>Only thing I don't like is some of the blatant disrespect or
>the lack of paying homage to old heads who helped make hip hop
>what it is today.

Agreed, I think it's important for fans to know their history. They don't have to like it, but they should respect those who laid the groundwork. That said, Drake is paying homage with the track...it may be misguided, but I doubt that Drake is just using their name for credibility and isn't actually a fan of the Wu. He's said Phonte is his favorite rapper, shouted out Dilla & Fredro Starr on his first album and stans for UGK. Drake is a hip hop head.

>I know some don't give a fuck but I think Lupe not talking to

Again, I agree, but this isn't that...the "machine gun rap" & "it's yours" samples had to be cleared to make it on this album and they were.

>I do t want these new heads to take It Takes a Million or
>Black Steel in the Hour and turn it into a parody rap or love

>
>Their should be rules to this shit.

There are rules to this shit, sample clearance laws, specifically. Prince & Billy Joel never clear samples. If the Wu didn't want to clear this shit, they technically couldn't stop him from using the title or "it's yours" refrain but the samples wouldn't be in there. They fuck with it.
2840884, I'm not talking about sample clearance....

Posted by southphillyman, Sat Sep-14-13 03:56 PM
just standard rap braggadocio shit imo
i just think the title and hook were EXTRA lazy, especially for a rapper of Jayz's caliber
as far as this drake song
i may be reaching but i think the point is that this woman is his forever. she has a man currently but it doesn't matter cause when drake comes thru to see her he comes thru on his Wu Tang , It's Yourz, meaning the pussy is his regardless
so wutang "forever" would describe their relationship in a poetic sense
looping the It's Yours wu sample under the story ties everything together and makes the connection clearer
2840858, FOH this isn't creative its trolling...
Posted by legsdiamond, Sun Sep-15-13 10:56 AM
Nigga better make a remix because this shit is blasphemy.

....and Tom Ford is a brand. This is totally different than naming a love song after a rugged hip hop song from a group that stomped niggas out, had kung-fu samples and drove a limo to pick up a welfare check.

Cappadonna reference on "Tuscan Leather", ODB shout-out on "Worst Behaviour", the samples/references on "Wu-Tang Forever", making Wu comparisons for the "Started From The Bottom" beat in interviews a couple months back, the "It's Yourz" sample also being used on "Own It"...I dunno, if Take Care was Drake during his Aaliyah phase, Nothing Was The Same comes right in the thick of his apparent Wu-Tang obsession.

There's also a Prodigy/"Keep It Thoro" reference on "Tuscan Leather", too. Drizzy keeping the flame lit.
