2835128, decent album. In fact, best rap album in 2013, so far. Posted by Fructose Soda, Fri Aug-23-13 09:06 AM
IMO, its better than Wolf, Yeezus, Born Sinner and MCHG. Earl has matured. His content is more nuanced and textured. Pretty decent guest appearances. I'm not bothered by any of them. I never thought I'd like any verse by Mac Miller, but I like his guest appearance. Its nothing heavy or serious, but funny. Vince Staples is becoming an MC that I will be on the look-out for. This album kinda feels like how Raekwon's "Cuban Linx" featured Ghostface. The way Earl is givin Vince the spotlight (in a way). The production is good. Not classic material. But its more interesting than any rap album I've heard this year, so far. The RZA track "Molasses" feels a bit underwhelming, or not fully fleshed out. I was expecting more from a RZA production. Still, its good to hear from him again. There are a couple of tracks that are lacking in the ear-candy aesthetic, but they're not horrible. I just wish that the producers for this album stretched themselves a bit more.
