3 of the 4 lists have ATLiens and all four have an OutKast album listed. I'm liking this pattern.

ATCQ - MM
PHarcyde - bizarre ride
Kast - Aquemini
Nas - IWW
Roots - phrenology
2815382, ooooh... Phrenology had a REALLY good shot at making my list
Posted by DonWonJusuton, Sun Jun-23-13 07:35 PM
fucking love that album... and it might make my top 10 favorite hip hop albums (who am i kidding, it DOES make my top 10), but if i only have 5 albums that i can play, each one of them needs to be something i can listen to damn near all the time... and sometimes that's the flaw of great material for me... i can only take it in doses... in terms of albums that i love, i've got some "i can play everyday" albums and i've got some "ok pull this one out when you want to be reminded of what a masterpiece is" albums.. sometimes they intersect, but i'm not sure if Phrenology does for me... i'm just excited to see someone else like it THIS much...
2815410, yeah i really love that album, i almost had Be on there
Posted by las raises, Sun Jun-23-13 10:00 PM
too cause that album came out during a great time for me but didn't make the cut by >< this much

ITANOMTHUB
3 Feet High And Rising
Paul's Boutique
Geto Boys (Def American pressing)

You know, the above four came pretty easy to me, but it's always the one that will wrap up a list... that's the most difficult. I thought of everything from DONE BY THE FORCES OF NATURE to PEOPLE'S INSTINCTIVE TRAVELS AND THE PATHS OF RHYTHM to Dr. Octagon's album to SEX PACKETS, and for a few seconds, I thought of ENTER THE WU-TANG (36 CHAMBERS). As I write this, I'm also thinking of ALL HAIL THE QUEEN.

2815136, Illmatic, The Blueprint, The College Dropout, Game Theory, Eminem Show
Posted by Oak27, Sat Jun-22-13 04:02 PM
These aren't necesarilly my favorite rap albums, but definitely ones that have the biggest combination of quality and meaning. For example, Dropout is my third favorite Kanye album, but the nostalgia and memories I have associated with it make it more important to me than the 2 I'd put in front of it in terms of quality.

The others represent my favorite albums by 4 of my other favorite artists (definitely wanted to avoid having 2 albums by the same artist) each with a lot of meaning to me.
2815138, My 5 is so different than everyone else's lol...

Jay-Z "The Blueprint"

2815341, I don't know. Would I want the albums I've already burned out?
Posted by Nodima, Sun Jun-23-13 04:12 PM
Like, 36 Chambers is unquestionably on the list...except that if it's one of only five albums I can listen to, it'd be the one I listen to least because I've been listening to it since I was 12 and I'm done with that album, frankly.

So I'm going to go ahead and pick some albums I think are classics but are also newer to me and thus not played out the way most of the albums in my Handbook's Top 50 are:

#8 - Digable Planets - Blowout Comb
#18 - Edan - Beauty & The Beat
#19 - Redman - Muddy Waters
#35 - Big K.R.I.T. - Returnof4eva
#53 - Kingpin Skinny Pimp - King ov da Playaz Ball

OutKast - ATLiens
OutKast - Aquemini
Common - Resurrection
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Kanye West - Late Registration
2815379, Supreme Clientele, Madvillainy, Yeezus, Aquemini, Donuts
Posted by DonWonJusuton, Sun Jun-23-13 07:25 PM
lol.. obviously kidding about yeezus.. and not sure if Donuts counts... final 2 (if Donuts doesn't count):

- BlackStar (probably.. also, i get Respiration (flying high remix) if i go w/ this album)
- Covert Coup or Pilot Talk 2

... now granted these aren't my absolute *favorite* 5 rap albums (i'd actually rank ATLiens over Aquemini in terms of enjoyment.. but i can listen to Aquemini more often)... but i had to get some variety in there, some shit i like to rap along to.. and some shit that's impossible for me to get bored of, like Supreme Clientele (granted that one would be on the list for top 5 favorite rap albums too... but the replay value is maybe the highest of any rap album for me)..
2815385, this is gonna be tuff...

Hard to Earn
Low End Theory
Enter the 36 Chambers
Fear of a Black Planet (this was a hard pick over Nation of Millions)
Eyes on This (I must have bought this album 6 times over the years)

The Roots - Illadelph
Outkast - Aquemina
Jay-Z - The Blueprint
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
Eminem - Slim Shady LP

I could easily change this numerous times...but I'm gonna go with that...
2815561, Maybe...
Posted by Brew, Mon Jun-24-13 01:33 PM
1. The Chronic
2. Resurrection
3. Train of Thought
4. Buhloone Mindstate
5. Aquemini

Fuck that. I have no idea. Cause Doggystyle would need to be there. I don't even have any Nas albums on that list. Sometimes I prefer LWFC over Resurrection. The Blueprint deserves a spot probably.

I fucking hate you for this question.
