2795067, The Miles Davis Story (Documentary w/link)
Posted by The Wordsmith, Wed Apr-10-13 05:55 PM
Have any of you seen this doc on Miles? Pretty in depth and it does get down to the nitty gritty. I mean, one of his ex girlfriends mentioned how she was tapped on the shoulder (while dancing with Miles) by some other chick who said "you know, you're dancing with the biggest homosexual in here" or something along those lines. So, for those of you who haven't seen this doc, it's definitely not a surface material styled documentary. There are a number of people interviewed/interview clips including Ron Carter, Dizzy, Gil Evans, Miles himself, etc, etc. I'm only halfway done with the doc. It's over two hours long.

easy to find on DVD, bought mine from Tower a while ago for less than ten bucks
it gets really good at the end, I wish they'd interviewed Easy Mo Bee to make it complete though
2795177, I should be finishing it up tonight.

I'm looking forward towards the ending since you put it that way.

2796592, Hold on, so was Miles Davis gay?
Posted by gritty, Mon Apr-15-13 10:40 PM
I don't get why the one chick said Miles was a homosexual.
2796596, I know there were rumors that he...
Posted by The Wordsmith, Mon Apr-15-13 10:48 PM
...did do a little something behind closed doors but I don't think he ever admitted it or that it was officially confirmed.

Damn, I would've never thought he was gay, bisexual, homosexual or anything other than straight. Miles just seemed very masculine and the complete opposite of anything gay.
2796825, The fact that he was almost overly masculine was always

something I felt was a bit exaggerated on Miles' part...

especially as I read as a child how he was constantly praised by ppl for his good looks and even referred to as "pretty" by his family and he said he hated that

Also its no secret that he was physically abusive to ALL of his wives, and Miles' violent misogynistic behavior towards women always made me question what type of inner demons Miles must've been dealing with to be so cruel (the paradox is that he made perhaps the softest, most beautiful jazz ballads of any jazz artist)

2796658, i'd wager that chick was attempting to execute a classic

Cock-Block.

disregard further speculation.

Oh ok
2796729, RE: This was my main gripe with this documentary.

Too much tittle tattle gossipy stuff for my liking.

Lots of great live footage though.

Have you read the Richard Pryor autobiography? He talks about seeing Miles Davis tongue kissing Dizzy Gillespie.

Also......if you read between the lines in the Miles Davis autobiography it's clear that he's bi-sexual. He talks about the fantasies people have of sharing the bed with lots of beautiful women and men at the same time and the orgies at his house. Sharing women with other men is suspect to me.
2796820, ^^^^came in here to co-sign this...

I hadn't read that but I've heard it was rumored that Miles and Dizzy were involved in a homosexual affair but at that I didn't take the allegation/rumor seriously...I'm going to watch this documentary

I've read it front to back at least ten times.

I love how people just make things up and then cite a large text, as if no one's going to question it.

have watched and read a whole lot on him. Miles would have been perfect as a Rapper in the industry with his selective contradictions.

he was a interesting cat. changed the game.

2796733, Yeah, I got this on dvd
Posted by Wordman, Tue Apr-16-13 10:17 AM
I'd say it's probably the best doc about him.
