some of these tracks are so stripped-back and subtle that it's kind of difficult to get a good read on them, much less the album/piece/collection as a whole, only one listen in. it's all really hypnotic though. it's sort of like good minimalist techno with more varied percussion and rhythms. also a bit of dub, jungle, garage, and grime. at any given moment in a song there isn't too much happening: driving kick drums, some sparse synths that aren't particularly melodic, maybe some drone, percussion scattered toward the end of the phrase. it doesn't seem special or interesting in print but it all comes together nicely. these tracks are well-crafted and very nuanced, and as a result they are quite engaging. i think it's pretty exceptional. can't wait to hear more from these guys as a label/unit/collective/whatever
