2757726, Can we have a Lost Boys "Legal Drug Money" Appreciation?

Man, I remember the first time I ever listened to this album, I was doing a road trip from the Lou to Houston...dolo. When I got to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCmt0glCn4g. I was mesmerized. I listened to it prolly 10 times before I continued on. One of my favorite 90's rap albums, and it still holds up, IMO.

love, peace, and nappiness was good too. but yeah, lots of good songs on that album. even LB 4 Life had some good songs. (ghetto lifestyle) mr cheeks was always solid and they had great beats.

Mr. Cheeks - the emcee.
Freaky Tah - the adlib guy.
The other two cats?

The album starts off so well. I can't think of a better beginning to an album that those first couple of songs...

I played this disc straight out. It's a great CD to drive to.
2757810, I'm going to disagree with that, and actually

I was going to make a post before about how The Yearn may be the worst opening song on a great album.

I like the song just fine, but there is no way I'm opening my album with a joint recorded for the AIDS compilation because it doesn't present the overall album.

And the Lost Boyz had tons of songs to open with on that album.

The could've went with MMMH, or they could've went with that party anthem Get Up or they could've went with the street anthem JLCB&B.

That is obviously a nitpicking complaint, but I do think The Yearn is an odd opener.
2757812, I would have opened straight off with "Allright"...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Nov-21-12 01:21 PM
especially since it starts with that "back as a boy, I longed to be..."
2757829, Yea that is an option too

2757808, Maybe the most overlooked 90s NYC album

And that album gets better with time.

Lost Boyz were set up to be the next Mobb Deep type of act when they came out in 95.

Everyone was talking about them but then they were one of the first acts to really get hit with the label push backs because the album didnt drop until like a year after their first single.

And the album had 6 singles. Lifestyles of the Rich and Shameless, Jeeps Lex Coups Bimaz & Benz, Renee, The Yearn, Music Makes Me High, and Get Up.

Shit, I think Keep It Real was an underground single first too, so that would make 7.

That was unheard of back then for hip-hop, granted two came off of soundtracks/compilations.

The title track was always my shit too! I love that beat.

There really isn't a bad track on the album and I think the push back kind of killed their momentum because there is no reason that album is talked about among AT LEAST the B-level classics from that era.

2757820, wore the needle down with this one
