Posted by dula dibiasi, Wed Nov-21-12 10:58 AM
so game's tracklisting being littered w features inspires nearly unanimous bile and spite

here? not so much

interesting...
2757760, It's balanced out by claiming Dre has destroyed OutKast.
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Nov-21-12 11:02 AM
2757781, Game has more features w/people you hear all the time.
Posted by phemom, Wed Nov-21-12 12:03 PM
Whereas how many features have Phantogram & Little Dragon have?
2757783, I think big boi is more singing features..they basically takin the place
Posted by Menphyel7, Wed Nov-21-12 12:14 PM
of sleepy brown
2757785, I don't have a problem with Game's feature level but I'm sure
Posted by Bombastic, Wed Nov-21-12 12:19 PM
general reception between the two in here is mostly based on Big being one half of a group with four classic albums & coming off a solo record that was easily one of the best rap albums of 2010 while the other is Game.
2757792, pretty much
Posted by makaveli, Wed Nov-21-12 12:31 PM
most people just like big boi much better, rightfully so.
2757793, i can't believe we're even comparing the two..like..REALLY?
Posted by Hellyeah, Wed Nov-21-12 12:33 PM
2757799, I'll play. I think the idea of Game's features is that those artists
Posted by bentagain, Wed Nov-21-12 12:41 PM
are bigger than him

for example

50 was on top, when he put the Game on

so fans were purchasing his album

just as much, and maybe more

to hear the bigger artists like 50, Dre, etc...

and that's seems to be the same thing on his newest album

(I haven't purchased or heard a Game album, just my $.02)

Ye, 2Chainz, Wayne, etc...

all bigger fanbases than Game

whereas Big Boi is putting a cosign on lesser known acts

such as Little Dragon and Phantogram

even if we know who they are, Joe Public isn't as familiar with them as they are with Big Boi from OutKast

does that make sense?

he's going to expose these acts to a wider fanbase

whereas Game is using other artists' with a wider fanbase than his.
2757894, close... you're not quite there tho
Posted by dula dibiasi, Wed Nov-21-12 05:56 PM
see, that would make sense if the game complaints were actually referencing WHO was featured.

most of them weren't. they were critical of the features per se, in and of themselves. a lot of "why does he need a guest on every song?", "can't he hold a song down by himself?", etc.

don't see the same thing going on here. or for that matter, w the roots albums which also tend to be pretty feature heavy.

just an observation.
2757906, maybe because they have put out albums with minimal features
Posted by bentagain, Wed Nov-21-12 07:20 PM
it seems like every game album (based off of looking at his tracklistings for previous albums)

is heavy on features

and not like the Roots and OutKast features

that were initially crew features

he gets features from bigger acts than him

5 albums in

do you know what a Game solo album sounds like?

probably sounds like alot of other people on it...?

what I was saying

you're comparing already established acts putting folks on

whereas

game was a new act, getting put on by established acts

to date, he's made a career of it

so and so is hot right now, let me get them for this and that song

which leads to the question

how much of his art is really accredited to his ability

which I don't think you'd question in the other examples (the Roots and Big Boi)

I think T.I. and B.o.B. actually have DF ties early in their careers

he's probably doing Luda a favor at this point in his career

but I'm sure you can see how this is different compared to getting

Dre, Ye, Ross, Wayne, etc...on every album
2757916, RE: close... you're not quite there tho

Also,

I think a lot of us are expecting Big Boi to pull it all together with the Big Boi/Outkast sound somehow. He has set the bar that we feel any guests will only enhance what is ultimately HIS music.

The Game is known for sounding like his guests which actually takes away from him as an artist.

But I get what you are saying. They are basically doing similar things.. Collaborating with several hot guests. It's just that Game is collaborating with his peers in the rap game who are hot and have their own thing going on. Big Boi is collaborating with a lot of artists who are hot to the "Pitchfork" crowd. The effects are similar, but the demographics are different.

It remains to be heard which is more effective or not, but I think it's safe to say that around these parts, Big Boi has the better shot.
2757800, Your observation isn't wrong, but I'm pretty sure
Posted by blinded by the lights, Wed Nov-21-12 12:41 PM
you understand the difference as well.
2757795, ok now i'm beyond excited for this...i could've never imagined
Posted by Hellyeah, Wed Nov-21-12 12:34 PM
