2757030, What Albums from 2011 got the most play from you in 2012? Posted by stylez dainty, Mon Nov-19-12 11:20 AM
And how does it stack up to your Best of 2011 list (mental or otherwise) from a year ago or so?
The Roots - Undun (didn't make my list) Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica (number one) Serengeti - Family & Friends (made the list) Davis - Davis (made the eps list) King Krule EP (made the eps list)
Ones that made the list that didn't get as much play
Open Mike Eagle - Rappers Will Die of Natural Causes (my number 2, still like it, just didn't play it as much) Ricardo Villalobos and Max L - RE:ECM - I did not play much idm leaning music this year. Still think it's great, but not where my tastes are at at the moment. Kanding Ray - OR - This one I did play once on a walk and changed it. Didn't grab me like it did before. Welcome Abroad - People Like Us - Tried playing it a few times, but I guess maybe it wore off a bit. Still like the approach to sound collage/mash up, but the showtunes, standards bent just isn't my thing I guess.

2757033, RE: Trembling Blue Stars — Correspondence EP Posted by Austin, Mon Nov-19-12 11:23 AM
And yeah, the King Krule has pretty much stayed in rotation since it came out this time last year.

2757043, PUTS' "Highlighter" & Willie Evans Jr/'s "Introducin'" Posted by mrhood75, Mon Nov-19-12 11:38 AM
Also, "Undun" and Flash Bang Grenada's "10 Haters."
I'd say they hold up perfectly well to this year's best releases, even though I may enjoy this year's top 5 slightly better than last year's top 5.

i'll join you in saying The Roots - Undun (because it came out so late last year) Common - The Dreamer / The Believer (same reason) Drake - Take Care (same reason) Blue Daisy - The Sunday Gift (same reason) Meredith Monk - Songs Of Ascension Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. (i kept this in rotation longer than i would have because their concert was postponed twice, so i saw them over a year after first scheduled) mmpsuf - Expeditors (discovered this year) Puscifer - Conditions Of My Parole Saul Williams - Volcanic Sunlight Shabazz Palaces - Black Up Game - The R.E.D. Album Lil Wayne - Tha Carter IV The Weeknd - House Of Balloons Plaid - Scintilli DJ Shadow - The Less You Know, The Better hectic zeniths - hectic zeniths (technically a 2012 release, but i received this last year and listened for 10 months straight)
as far as how they shape up compared with my best of 2011 list, i didn't really do one last year. actually i tried and didn't really like the top 10-15 i came up with enough to share it, but some of these same releases were on there, and those that weren't are because i was listening to them early enough in 2011 that they were out of rotation by 2012. i am a cd buyer so i have a few cd's i keep in the car for weeks to months, every once in a while over a year, and call that my rotation along with the small few download-only albums i return to like mmpsuf and, until now, the weeknd. i buy a lot of new releases, but i also buy a lot of albums that came out in previous years (decades) and treat them the same. 2 of my most listened to albums this year were Mountain Man - Made The Harbor and Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk. so while i vouch for the aforementioned, it's mostly circumstantial that my listening to them bled into this year.

2757049, Black Up - I guess I didn't play that much Posted by stylez dainty, Mon Nov-19-12 11:46 AM
But I put it in the same category as Open Mike Eagle--I think I could still put it on and really enjoy, just haven't.
