2756360, So Cannibal Ox is working on a new LP (link)
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Thu Nov-15-12 08:31 PM
Earlier this week, underground hip-hop duo Cannibal Ox announced that they will be reuniting for a show at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn next month. At the time, their was no official word if they would also be recording a follow-up to their 2001 album The Cold Vein, but tonight, they confirmed that they are working on a new album that is due to come out in 2013.

Vaste Aire, one half of Cannibal Ox, revealed, “We never broke up, but the timing is now right for a new Cannibal Ox LP. Iron Galaxy Records is about to take over.” Vaste Aire added that him and groupmate Vordul Mega are currently in the studio working on the album. We will have to wait and see if El-P, who produced their entire first full-length, is going to have a hand in the production.

2756363, If El-P isn't included, I'll pass

And who knows if El even wants to go back to this well.

However, based on their solo efforts, I have no faith that they can do a project of substance without his guidance.

Their album is a certified classic in my books, and it may be better to just leave the CannOx legacy alone.
2756376, If you ask me Cannibal Ox is Vast/Vordul/El-P

If it's just two outta the three then it's some other shit.
2756380, agree with everything you said

2756381, What about the beats, the beats. Beats, the beats
Posted by Ishwip, Thu Nov-15-12 11:02 PM
Like most, I'm curious as to whether El-P would be involved, but I won't flat out say that's the ONLY way I'll eff w/ a new Can Ox album. Even if it's not as cohesive and "special" as "Cold Vein" was, if the production is good and the two of them are up to par I would welcome something new from them.

I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!

2756393, El stated he'd never work with these guys again

I wouldn't hold my breath for this one.
2756402, Isn't his beef mostly with Vast?
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Nov-16-12 12:56 AM
His problems with Vast are well-documented, but El produced a couple of track on Vordhul's last album, "Megagraphitti." Did he fall out with Vordhul as well?
2756403, Seems so...
Posted by mrshow, Fri Nov-16-12 12:58 AM
He said something on Facebook a few months back along the lines of "I'm never working with Cann Ox again."
2756457, What's the basis for the beef? Behind the scenes label drama?

2756476, A guide to the via MySpace posts (yes, MySpace posts):

http://www.wreckthetapedeck.com/2009/el-p-dishes-back-vast-aires-generous-portion-of-beef/

Short version: it appears Vast thought El-P was using too much of the money that Cold Vein made to sign other artists, rather than pay them. They lawyered up and got paid, but shit was never the same. Then there was behind the scenes beef that had to the with the Weathermen crew. Everything bubbled to the surface after Camu Tao died.
2756485, Thanks.

Shame how so many other people are seemingly involved in that disagreement. Would be amazing if the El-P, Vast, and Vordul reconciled and traversed all the negativty I just skimmed through.
2756446, Vast, Vordul & El-P together is PURE MAGIC
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Fri Nov-16-12 08:15 AM
Vast is still good by himself. I loved his first joint.

I don't check for Vordul by himself.

And El-P is great by himself and has done a lot of fantastic shit since then and great before then, but Cold Vein is by far my favorite shit he's done.

2756453, the three of them together again would be AMAZING..
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Fri Nov-16-12 08:52 AM
...doubt it happens ...but you gotta believe they all realize how much more hype and anticipation that it would add to their album
2756462, I agree with all of this except I don't check for Vast by himself either

2756474, Vast career has been one of the best examples I've seen...
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Fri Nov-16-12 10:29 AM
of someone looking like they just used all of their best rhymes on their early work.

Like a life's worth of great verses all in the first songs. Then it gradually gets worse.

I don't really check for him now.

His last joint got a spin or two for me.
2756479, I still think "Look Ma, No Hands" was a good album, but I agree
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Nov-16-12 10:47 AM
I believe that Alaska (of Atoms Family/Hangar 18) later said something to the effect that Vast had taken YEARS to work on his verses for "Cold Vein." He might very well have blown his entire wad with that album.
2756484, Yeah Look Ma... was good to me.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Fri Nov-16-12 11:05 AM
I know some didn't like it cuz they were expecting Cold Vein II, but whatever.

But everything after that? Hit or miss big time.
2756497, "Look Ma....'' is an extreme personal favorite of mine
Posted by Ishwip, Fri Nov-16-12 11:47 AM
And I did like his collabo w/ Mighty Mi (more so for the beats).

2756528, I think Dueces Wild was even better / more cohesive

.
2756466, Say word!
Posted by Wordman, Fri Nov-16-12 10:14 AM
Obviously, I'd love El-P on the beats, but at this point, I'd take just about anything.

2756529, 8 yrs too late and no El-P = :(
Posted by astralblak, Fri Nov-16-12 12:43 PM

...this ship has sailed...EL blessed those cats, and it won't happen again...like someone else said, without all three, it would not be a Can Ox project...plus Vast is wack on the Mic now....
2756603, 2011 El P washed his hands
Posted by Lunch Box, Fri Nov-16-12 04:18 PM
I think he means it.
2756607, without el-p this means nothing
Posted by Kosa12, Fri Nov-16-12 05:58 PM
in terms of hopes that it will even be close to cold vien. might as well make a new group name
