2746204, my picks Posted by johnbook, Fri Oct-05-12 09:07 PM
Christopher Walken Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGFToiLtXro REASON: I know he may be remembered for some of his funnier works but for me, it will always be his role as Nick in THE DEER HUNTER, one of my all time favorite movies.
Pete Townshend Pete Townshend's "Rough Boys" (the last 45 seconds) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkT8W6u81Ks REASON: My favorite Townshend (solo) song, especially the last 45 seconds. In the 80's, this song and video became one of THE symbols of a new network called MTV. The last words in the song, "I wanna see what I can find", can be considered a reference to his new book, WHO I AM.
ALTERNATE (more daring) PICK: Terry Riley's "In C" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjR4QYsa9nE REASON: Terry Riley is the Riley in "Baba O'Riley", as Townshend considers Riley to be a major musical influence on him. Riley is known for his minimalist work, and "In C" is arguably one of his more famous works, playing one note (C) and seeing how one can variate from it. The intro to "Baba O'Riley" had been said for years to be the data code for his then-guru, Meher Baba, that he allegedly programmed into his synthesizers at his home studio. It's a bit closer to Townshend's love of Riley's works.
