2743191, what's nas holy trinity of lps?
Posted by Bblock, Mon Sep-24-12 04:21 PM
jay's is rd, bp, tba

is nas illmatic, iww, and stillmatic?

if not, what?
2743193, Yea, I think you got it right.
Posted by Brew, Mon Sep-24-12 04:24 PM
2743200, Stillmatic? Really?
Posted by CondoM, Mon Sep-24-12 04:42 PM
I know his catalog is weak, but is that really the third piece of the holy trinity? Has anybody listened to it in the last five years?
2743208, Yep, if it's not #3 it might be #4, 5 at worst.
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Mon Sep-24-12 05:15 PM
Thought it was great because it had the commercially appealing songs that didn't sound forced, and he still got off lyrically.

Never Forget.
2743201, can we count "lost tapes"?
Posted by cbk, Mon Sep-24-12 04:42 PM
if so, that'll replace stillmatic for me.

2743207, Yeah. I don't think "Stillmatic" holds up as a great album.

I'm in love with 2/3rds of the album, but I could say the same for "God's Son". "Lost Tapes" is the legitimate classic that should round out the trio.

2743248, The Lost Tapes is a compilation album with no sequencing
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Mon Sep-24-12 07:25 PM
it's not an album and Nas didn't even put it out
it doesn't count just because you niggers like it
2743253, I look at it two ways Pop
Posted by Anonymous, Mon Sep-24-12 07:43 PM
On one hand...it's not an album because it is in fact a collection of unreleased songs and Nas didn't even really put it out.

On the other hand...if I'm recommending someone some dope music to check out, or even some dope 'albums' to check out from say, that year, or in Nas' catalogue, I have to mention it because it has some of the best songs on there period.

Plus, it's impossible to 'not' have a sequence lol
2744033, RE:lol you know w hat I mean
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Thu Sep-27-12 11:49 AM
its probably the best Hip Hop compilation thats not a greatest hits, but it's not an album despite the quality of the songs (which is the argument people seem to want to make so they can fit it in with their point)
2743209, Illmatic, Lost Tapes, Life Is Good

Posted by astralblak, Mon Sep-24-12 05:28 PM
God's Son or Life Is Good

also Nas' discog is no where near as bad as i once claimed it to be

2743214, Illmatic, It Was Written, and Life Is Good
Posted by Anonymous, Mon Sep-24-12 05:34 PM
The Lost Tapes, Stillmatic, and God's Son are all dope

I Am and Untitled are 3.5s

Nastradamus, Hip-Hop Is Dead, and Streats Disciple all of some quality but as a whole I could do without.

These are mine. Was never crazy about Stillmatic like some were. Life Is Good is gonna hold up better.

2743263, Amazing how you're so willing to avoid "Life Is Good"
Posted by mel_13, Mon Sep-24-12 08:07 PM

2744199, exactly, mofos trying force feed LIG on everybody, when at best
Posted by kysersozey, Thu Sep-27-12 10:12 PM
it's average... and I'm being VERY liberal with that
2743269, Illmatic and Life Is Good definitely
Posted by beatnik, Mon Sep-24-12 08:17 PM

2743270, RE: what's nas holy trinity of lps?
Posted by playmaker88, Mon Sep-24-12 08:19 PM

2743338, he doesnt have one
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Sep-25-12 12:19 AM
*trollface*

but really tho
he has 2 nailed in, illmatic and iww.
then theres maybe 3 or 4 albums that COULD be at #3.

usually with a trinity its a consensus unless somebody's dropped more than 3 classics...hmmm...
2743349, probs
Posted by Kosa12, Tue Sep-25-12 01:29 AM
illmatic, iww, and life is good(or lost tapes)

stillmatic is kind of overrated imo but still really like that lp
2743357, For me, Illmatic + his last two.
Posted by Anfernee, Tue Sep-25-12 01:57 AM
Untitled + Life Is Good
2743384, I think traditionally, it's been those three
Posted by Dr Claw, Tue Sep-25-12 08:36 AM
particularly for what they mean to Nas's career

but Life Is Good > Stillmatic for the whole length of the LP

even though Stillmatic has more "iconic" Nas records ("Ether", "One Mic", "Got UR Self A Gun" et al) and some sharp album cuts, there are a couple of songs that sound "not quite right" now as they did then.

2743401, RE: what's nas holy trinity of lps?
Posted by Thanes1975, Tue Sep-25-12 09:45 AM
Illmatic ...IWW....Life Is Good

2743449, "Illmatic", "It Was Written", & "Lost Tapes"
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Tue Sep-25-12 11:28 AM
End of discussion ;)

2743451, I would say Illmatic | Stillmatic | Life is Good
Posted by Oak27, Tue Sep-25-12 11:33 AM
Regardless of if you feel IWW is better than either of those second two, each of these represent Nas at a different point of his career. One is his arrival and the others are his return to form after a lackluster string of albums before it. When looking back at his career these are the 3 most important albums.
2743457, i think iww is needed to show his growth from underground rapper
Posted by Bblock, Tue Sep-25-12 11:53 AM
to commercially sound rapper
2743475, I agree with you, although AG>BA

2744186, I came into this wondering who wouldn't say ill and iww
Posted by Dr_Gonzo, Thu Sep-27-12 09:20 PM
I'm leaving this post thinking I really need to listen to Life is Good.
2744188, RE: He would need at least three good albums. . .
Posted by Austin, Thu Sep-27-12 09:25 PM
. . .in the first place.

Automatic disqualification.

Unless we're talking about the "Holy Trinity" of mediocrity.

2744443, wow, this is embarrassing.
Posted by Guinness, Sat Sep-29-12 04:03 AM
dude doesn't even have a classic album post-1996. maybe chief keef would rap better if nas had put out a great LP during his LIFETIME.
